So my MTX hasnt been running right since i bought it, it seems to accelerate well but unless its at full throttle it seems to be crackling and popping like a 4 stroke fast idle sort of thing? im sure i heard someone tell me its 4 stroking or something? it seems to pull hard and fast at full revs but very spluttery and rough at anything less than full throttle? :S

Its difficult to get the bike to idle, and the idle screw is pretty much all the way in, the mixture screw is wound all the way in (Rich) and the circlip on the carb slide is on the bottom notch (More fuel). if i try and lean it out a bit, it takes ages to start and i have to bump it, asif the fuel is taking ages to get through? i have tried multiple spark plugs.

The reason it is like this im assuming is because it has had a new expansion chamber, a new end can, the snorkel has been removed and the airbox has been drilled.

if anyone could explain to me why this is and what i should do?

i would be extremely pleased!

thanks for reading!

Thumbs Up

Why the hell did you drill holes in the airbox?

It always amazes me when people feel that they can do a better job of the intake side of the combustion than the original manufacturer.

stuff

aint un-common to drill the airbox, just usually with a re-jet along with performance exhausts

I take it that the re-jet is done whilst using a dynameter to check the results?

i guess some do and some dont, people used to manage ok before dynos were common place Wink

regardless, what i meant was its not an un-common mod, bigger carb/jets and performance exhausts would be pretty much wasted if you cant get more air in in the 1st place

but, going back to the op post, im assuming it hasnt been re-jetted, just adjusted to try to compensate......which prob wont be very healthy for his piston Thumbs Up

No idea. Everyone else would just be guessing as well.

You could try taping over the holes, drilled in the air box, and see if it makes any difference!
