Not keen on the laces. Laces can get caught on the bike in a spill, that's why you never see them on modern motorcycle boots.

Yeah I cut the straps off my rucksack for exactly that reason.

I have Alt Berg boots with laces and they've never got caught on my bike. I've even crashed in them a couple of times.

In fact, I've got my Hein Gericke zip boots caught on the pegs more times than I can remember.

You don't necessarily need waterproof boots, just waterproof socks!

Calf length (KE741) Sealskinz Thermal Socks are absolutely brilliant for this time of year.
