Not bad work - pistonheads are going to be fuming over that Laughing.

I've always thought a replica makes more sense for most people - that just want to be seen in it. Use some of the spare cash on a decent kit car/GTR whatever Smile.

Was getting some tyres fitted at a local garage, this guy pulls up in a 'ferrari' in his suit and shades on, walks around the place talking down to the guys that work there, generally an ignorant, arrogant fucktard, until one of the mechanics points out his ferrari is infact an mr2 based replica.

He wasn't happy at all, went bright red and went and sat outside out of the way until his car was done Laughing

Not bad, not bad at all Thumbs Up

EDIT: I would never drive it, it'd feel stupid. Confused

I would like to have this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GLMfInLSJPo 356 replica, using VW parts it's even ''better'' than the original car, that is much older than the beatle it's made off. Thumbs Up

Doesn't look like a well designed chassis. In a head on the front will fold up to the drivers face...

BMW V12 I think. As a guess I would say from an 8 series

Fair point, can you show us some that you've made so that we know how to do it right?

Not a very well designed car, have a head on with that you're going to be wearing the engine.

Not really in the same league, is it - plenty of kit cars around that look like that. And yes, why is it so much safer in a collision than the McLaren rep?

A locost built from bought parts is entirely different to one built from scratch.

Also, Did you have the filter poking through the bonnet for SVA?

Because that is not the mclaren chassis, this is:
https://www.wired.com/images_blogs/autopia/2010/07/mclaren-mp4-12c-chassis.jpg

So what he has built is essentially a kitcar with, in my opinion, a chassis that will fold up on impact.

In fact, I'd guess that the rep McLaren has a stronger chassis than your locost.

Agreed, and yes, that was not an issue in IVA

Sorry Wilz, not trying to pick at you here, but that seems a slightly odd sentiment from someone who rides motorcycles.
There are also plenty of older cars around today, built before the days of crumple zones and all the other safety considerations we see in cars these days, some with some very impressive performance. Their drivers don't seem overly concerned about such points.

The rep builder featured here is also obviously a very talented individual - I certainly don't have room to criticise. Nor am I in a position to criticise your build. Just that your post provoked a couple of thoughts (not easily done! Laughing )

Not exactly difficult, I put mine together in 10 days. I say put together rather than built because that's exactly what it entails. Note I also bought the proper kit rather than a replica Wink

Heck, me and G rebuilt the back end in a car park in a 3-4 hours...

https://cdn.bikechatforums.com/files/387232_10151611946208115_744162375_n_283.jpg

I'm very proud of having 'built' my own car, but this guy is in a different league...

I take back my point about it being poorly designed, I'm sure the guy is very talented! Smile

The point I was trying to convey is that if you look at the side profile it reaches a very thin point at the driver feet, in a crash I would imagine it to collapse here. A locost was perhaps a bad comparison.

Have you seen the chassis of just about any cabrio? I don't see it as anything particularly worse than those. It's probably safer than many 80s & 90s examples and it was built in a shed...

Note the McLaren pictured is the MP4, not the original F1 but the new 'plebs' McLaren.

I believe this is an actual F1.
https://www.robinson-race-cars.co.uk/McLaren%20Gulf%20A.jpg

I would expect any mid mounted sports car with decent weight distribution is going to suffer - even more so if the driver sits forward of other passengers.
