 |
|
Okay so just bought a bike, it is a GSX 600 F and on the MOT done in October it says odometer reading 14366 but on the digital odometer display on the bike it says 65,000 miles. I did a HPI on it before I bought it and it came up as CAT C total loss. On the HPI check it also says: VRM and VIN not recorded as a repaired insurance 'total loss'. Do you have to have it on the V5 as a cat C?
The only thing I can think of is that the bike was crashed after October this year but it looks very tidy with no noticeable damage.
The HPI also says:
Police stolen
VRM and VIN not currently recorded by the police as stolen
Insurance theft
VRM and VIN not currently recorded by insurers as a theft
Outstanding finance
VRM and VIN not currently recorded as having outstanding finance
Security watch
VRM and VIN not currently recorded as at risk on the security register
Plate transfer
VRM not recorded as having previous plates

Do you have the V5 with you at the moment
Could try check the MOT history for it so you can see what the mileage is like across its previous MOT's [if done in the last few years - can't remember when the online history came into effect]

New clocks after the originals were damaged perhaps |

Thanks for the link, I have just sent the V5 off as previous owner just gave me the V5 with section 8 signed. I am pretty sure you have to declare cat C and it should appear on V5. I bet the clocks are second hand and used to replace the previous as you say but how can I then get them changed or am I now stuck with that reading? |

Oh, the last ODO reading on my van was way out on the MOT.
Only noticed some time later, should have checked at the time and got them to put it right .
They could have read the trip reading (maybe adding a 0) or just got it generally wrong. |

All MOTs check out with the mileage so I am going to get it corrected through a company. I am not too worried about it really, gave it a check over and it runs in a straight line with hands off bars. It looks mint and I could probably sell it in summer once the mileage has been corrected for a profit as I paid 1300 for it. |

I had a bike that went from 2800 miles on one MoT to 33300 miles the next year, and back down to 4300 the following year.
I can only assume the tester made a mistake ____________________ '82 C50, '81 CB100, '84 GS125, '95 NTV650, '00 Bandit 600, '06 SV650, '56 Z1000, '89 NTV600

There was me presuming MOT testers paid extra time and attention to the documentation
Quite worrying that a small balls-up like adding a 0 could seriously undervalue your vehicle if it wasn't corrected |

Well, caveat emptor, but if it's in good nick, it's in good nick. Cat C wouldn't bother me in the slightest.
Tough choice on whether to get it corrected, I'm honestly not sure which way I'd go on that one. It's getting towards the value and the market where it might not pay for itself. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.
