Hopefully this won't be a long winded post....

I was banned from 27/01/12 till 27/01/13. I sent off my application around 13/12/12 to make sure I got my licence back for the end of my ban (as per their instructions), between the end of January and the end of March I was sent numerous forms and questionnaires, all of which were filled in and sent off. I've been sent for 2 medicals (most recently a treadmill and stress echo around the end of July).

The only notifications I've received has told me they've received the forms and that all the information has been passed to their doctors for review and they should reach a decision within 12 weeks... which should have been around the start of November. Since then I've called them twice and been fobbed off twice with 'We're busy....', 'don't know how long it will take...' etc

During the phone call today I was told that because I'm driving under a technicality if I don't have my licence back within 12 months I have to fill in a D1 form. Failure to do so will mean I'm breaking the law if I drive/ride.

Now I'm just having a bit of a whinge here, but has anyone else had this kind of thing happen? Also if I was to write a letter of complaint how would I word it? So far I've got:
Dear Thieving Bastards,

Geez ma licence back ya bunch a cun's

tl;dr:

After 11 months DVLA still haven't sent me my licence back and I'm having a whinge about it

Storm down to their office with Big Dave and Fingers Wilson, they'll have it sorted soon enough.

OT but you had the slip they sent you to say they received notification of ownership and you still paid their bribe when they said you hadn't notified them??

They will never stop if people keep doing this sort of thing. Easy money for them.

Is serious?

You could and should have started down their complaints procedure months ago.

Know the feeling. DVLA, they are like Muslims of Motoring. When I got shot of an old bike I was sent a letter from DVLA confirming a change of ownership blah blah. It said I didnt need to reply unless the letter was in error. Some months later I got a fine for doing just that (not notifying DVLA of change of ownership), refused to pay and got a court summons. I was still refusing to pay but ended up doing so coz of pestering relatives who were also saying they would pay it themselves if necessary.

Wish I could advise you on how to beat these bastards tho, I fuckin despise them.

I've already been down that road with them, had the court date and everything.... then a few days before I sent them all the receipts, copy of V5, and ebay listing..... they dropped the case Twisted Evil

Now that I think of it.... maybe this is them getting their revenge Evil or Very Mad

Rogerborg, I had to give them their 12 weeks (allegedly), so could only really have started complaining a few weeks ago anyway.... but why say UP TO 12 weeks when it's been about 17 so far.

Meh. It took them 12 years and six different driving licences (accopmanied by either my birth certificate or UK passport and a note explaining they had once again mis-spelled my surname) to finally spell my surname correctly.

To be fair, Mxyzptlk isn't that common a name around these parts.

What's fucking scary about that is that if you look at the letters on the keyboard, its not someone misunderstanding the spelling, its someone knowing the spelling and typing it completely wrong. (K is next to I, P next to O, I is next to O). I mean, we are talking about someone whose paid position was to type shit into a computer! Fucking retards...

Tell me about it. I had made sure to write it all very neatly too when I had sent it as I've had to send one back 3 times before as they kept getting the address wrong.

This time I sent it back with a sheet of A4 paper with the name and address printed out in size 40 font Thumbs Up

It did the trick.

Back in 2004-2006, the DVLA Medical Group revoked my license for about 18 months. I had my license from then until October 2008, and since then it's been with the DVLA Medical Group again. Sad

Get your GP to phone/write to the DVLA medical department to chase them up about getting your license back. Do your Gp and consultant say that you meet the medical requirements?

His GP and consultant contacting the DVLA Medical Group would be more beneficial, The DVLA actually listen to them!!

Does that say Woodford Road?

Ste, when I went for my last DVLA requested treadmill and stress echocardiogram (can't remember the exact full name), the doctor that done the treadmill part said everything was fine.... the nurse that done the echocardiogram said my heart was working perfectly. I will give my doctor and consultant a call and find out if they can help out.

The heart tracing thing is an ECG. It's part of the NHS free body waxing service cos the pads they stick on stick more to hair than to skin. Which is great if they're insisting on doing regular EGGs!
