Christmas day = drink a bottle of rum day for me, historically.

This year I shall mostly be drinking this:

TL:DR - I'm a pirate.

Kraken is the greatest. This years favourite winter warmer is:

Heat some good quality apple juice in a saucepan (I go for Coppella cloudy or Innocent), add a small stick of cinnamon. When it starts to simmer, remove from the heat to cool a little, then add a shot of Kraken.

I first had this waiting in a queue in the freezing cold.

On the subject of spiced rum, Bacardi Oak Heart is good. I got a bottle when it was on offer a couple of weeks ago. Its spiced dark run, and unusually has a bit of a smoky taste to it. It's aged in charred oak barrels. Nice over ice, or with coke.

I tried that the other day, found that it didn't last very long - mixed with coke it didn't taste strong at all...! Dangerous. Laughing

I've a bottle of Talisker 18 single malt under the tree with my name on it.

Few drams of that, followed by whatever takes my fancy from my whisky cabinet. Tend to have a negative correlation between degree of insobriety and cost of whisky, so, finish on something cheap but palatable like a Whyte and Mackay blend or move onto something else like German Korn with beer.

Bought a load of lager/ale/wine/cider for guests/wife, and will mull some cider which I may partake in too.

Gallons of Snowballs. Limoncello. Koppaberg. Gin and Tonic. Various bottles of wine. Whatever else isn't bolted down.

Last year I was making advocaat snowballs with real balls of snow.

This year it will be about 14 C, so we'll all need a few cold beers to cool down.

I shall be sampling many real ales both before and after consumption of entirely too much roast dinner. ^_^

Interesting. What does your husband drink?

If there's no third party there, they'll just be swapping that mouthful of semen and saliva back and forward. Nothing like a traditional Christmas, eh?

But surely once you get past half way you stop enjoying it and start... well... being far too drunk to achieve anything constructive?

I hear all these people that quality alcohol is to be savoured and enjoyed because it's a connoisseur thing, and then someone decides they are going to down an entire bottle of spiced rum in a single day?

Just seems like a waste to me. If you want to get that wasted you might as well go with cheap vodka or white lightning. Heck, why not go the whole hog and make a Buckfast and Meths cocktail!

Some people have higher alcohol tolerances and over the course of a day, a bottle of rum might just be the right amount. Admittedly still a lot, but he's not necessarily going to be puking the turkey up and passing at at 7pm.
