The old Hornet is no longer on the Honda website, and the new CB650F will be out soon.

Can anyone explain to me why the new 650 has more cc's but less horses? I understand that bigger is not always more powerful, but what's the rationale behind this change? Will the new 650F be a better bike because of the engine upping the capacity but downing the horses?

As you can probably tell I am truly ignorant on this. Any insights appreciated.

Not sure why they've bored it out to 650, but I believe the reason for killing a few horses was so that it was able to be restricted and ridden on the new A2 license.

Euro 4 emissions are coming in 2016, could be a bunch of new, more stifled engines coming over the next couple of years.

As far as I can tell the new engines gives 46 torques in ft-lb, and the old 47 torques.

Isn't the engine getting bigger to no great effect just a sign o' the times? Probably promises "more usable power where you need it" (like, when I'm on the motorbike?) and better fuel economy (like from a smaller engine).

Yep, as soon as "more usable power where you need it" was announced I went and bought a CBR600F while it is still available. There were only 2 left to order, plus whatever is still sitting in showrooms.

Yes, 650 will be more fuel efficient, nut I don't think it will be as good as the current 600.

It does make me wonder if there's a place for the CB6x0F "Hornet" at all. If you want what they've turned it into, you can get an NC700/NC750 for less - Honda claim it's quicker to the legal limit anyway.
