I'd just use some tarp and promise her a new carpet if it goes wrong.
Chances are it will be fine and shes happy expecting a new carpet - only to be amazed at how thoughtful you are in protecting the carpet |

A large sheet of plastic and one of these should provide adequate protection for the floor covering. ____________________ A good loser will always be a loser. |

I'd be thinking some 8x4 ply, OSB or similar. Varnish for protection from leaks, but also just be careful .
You could even add a little raised perimeter to stop leaks from spreading.
Or, how about making a table/lift with the same? |

A big bag of Kitty Litter. It absorbs liquids so any oil spills will be mostly soaked up by it. ____________________ W-ireless A-rtificial L-ifeform L-imited to O-bservation P-eacekeeping and E-fficient R-epair |
