Uh, why not just tell your ISP that you want porn?

Or better yet, switch to one without a Nanny Filter and reward them.

Granted, I can see the use if you want to knock one out in a cafe or airport using their filtered wifi.

I understand why this is being done if it helps protect kids (young).

If you can opt in, then opt in. Everyone grabs a handful we know it and they know it.
If you are of legal age that you have to bypass, then you are probably not paying the bill and should move out of Mum and Dads.

Unless you can already get porn and personally didn't need to ask for it from your ISP?

In that case your Dad did is probably acting out snuff scenes with your Mum in the next room using the same hands she makes your breakfast with. Yeah you should still move out.

not aimed at the OP directly but you know this rings true with someone on here Twisted Evil

Once again....

This isn't about the children or terrorism. This is setting in place a system where any website can be blocked at the governments request quickly and easily.

This is standard censorship (you know, like China...) under the guise of protecting kids.

Yup, it's an easy way for the government to slip in the Great Firewall of Britain with the old "won't someone please think of the children?!" argument. If you phone up to opt out they will put a marker on your account and monitor what porn you look at incase it's too violent or the girl looks too young then they'll kick your door down.

2BH. I don't have any problems finding my normal wank banks using my bookmarks with virgin as my ISP & haven't even noticed any filter except maybe in Google with it not bringing up so much "NSFW" material, & did not even know all this restriction had started yet!

Yes exactly, what avenue are they gonna use once they've clamped the interwebs down

Legislation and compulsion.

This is currently a "voluntary" scheme by the big ISPs, although the Nanny Committee running the block list will be a quango so that the Outer Party can be rewarded with a stint on it, frantically blocking all the things that they're vehemently against but can't seem to stop thinking about.

The Mumsnet types are already shrieking that voluntary is inadequate. If it looks like there's a few votes in it come 2015, one or t'other lot of the Old Boys will promise a Great Firewall, for great justice.

Use a VPN service - No blocks, no tracing, no pedantic internet policing.

If it was ever about child-protection the government would realise just how shite this 'filtering' is. The genuienely innocent kids are coming across 'harmful material' on google images via the most obscure unrelated searchs. If they're attempting to access porn sites that are being blocked they've already seen it as they know what they're looking for...

Similar to the 'blocking of child porn' by google and others - people looking for that material aren't using fucking google Rolling Eyes they're finding and sharing it via other virtually untraceable means. The governments advisors on this need to be sacked, if they are being listened to, which they probably aren't considering David Nutt's career as a drugs advisor Rolling Eyes

Considering Nutt's career, they are actively ignoring professional opinion over political gain.

"A synthetic alcohol substitute based on benzodiazepines, proposed for alcoholic beverages which give the drinker the effects of drunkenness without many of the risks of alcohol, is currently[when?] being developed by a team at Imperial College London under the leadership of Nutt."

From wikipedia

He has a financial interest in Gsk, the cynic in me suggests that legalisation of drugs could have possibly made him a saint at Gsk. Fuck me, what a circus.

Possible financial gain/interests of GSK yes, but in either case if they can mitigate or remove the damaging effects of alcohol it would be the holy-grail in terms of modern health benefits.

Explaining his sacking of Nutt, Alan Johnson wrote in a letter to The Guardian, that "He was asked to go because he cannot be both a government adviser and a campaigner against government policy.
So they will not acknowledge advice from someone if it goes against their current 'information'. Why bother to employ someone for the purpose of advising in the first place Thinking
