I had my bike "professionally" cleaned and ACF-50'd a few weeks ago for the winter (this basically involved me sitting eating chips with happy Jonny cleaning my bike and spraying ACF-50 onto it while we ranted about the EU, immigrants, and British weather). I'm quite sure he did a good job of it so I'm not worried about that.

The last few days the wind and rain have been horrendous. My bike is outside under a simple bike cover, there's nowhere else for it to go. The front brake disc is already rust covered and it's only been a few days.

What else can be done to look after a bike during winter? Especially when kept outdoors. If I'm not going to be using it for a while could I put ACF-50 on the brake discs?

I wouldn't put anything on the brake surfaces, however long its being left.

If its not been out on the road to get plastered in salt prior to the rust its probably not anything to worry about - light surface rust is quite common when you leave it outside, or even in a garage with the air moisture. When it comes to riding it next give it a light brush with some wire-wool or a kitchen-scourer and most will probably come off straight away. The rest will be gone within a few miles of braking usually.

If it has/you do go out and its been particularly bad since then give it a quick soapy wash down to get the salt off before storing it again. I've been equally paranoid about the slightest spec of rust in the past, but these things don't corode away and die overnight it takes lots of neglect - it'll be fine Thumbs Up

Rust on the discs is no biggie, lightly brake whilst riding along and it'll be removed very quickly. It's a common occurrence on bikes and cars.

As above surface rust on discs is normal and will go away after normal use.
