for being ok. Proper gear really helps in these situations.
Just managed to get myself back home in one piece too. I left home to get some petrol, with the intention of going for a decent ride. Apart from the roads being wet, they looked fine. However, a couple of miles down the road I noticed the pavements were looking strangely white So I thought I'd carry on a bit further and see how it played out. The next thing I know is I'm riding in car tracks with sheet ice either side of them.
So I decide that I should head back home and take the next turn off to turn around and head back. It was only after commiting to the turn that I realised it was an angled slope covered in a thick layer of frozen hailstones . Fk knows how I stayed upright, I think my sphincter provided extra grip. Managed to u turn the bike around under some trees that had sheltered the road from the hailstones but was then faced with the problem of having to get the bike back up the sloped hill and round onto the main road. After weighing the situation up and just about to abandon the bike and call for a taxi, I noticed a clear path on the pavement, so backed up until I reached a driveway and gingerly rode it up there up to the main road and got safely home.
I was convinced I was going to kiss tarmac at some point and all I could think of was how much new fairings were going to cost me. |
