I have just let my Fiance take our 8yr old Daughter on her first pillion ride !!

I wanted to make sure she had all the correct padding first, and now she has her Hein Gericke suit she ventured out today !

They have just gone on a 10 minute slow ride and I am a WRECK !! HAHA Shocked Mr. Green Sick

She did look scared actually, but I guess that is to be expected.

It was so hard to let go..I didn't think it would be like this.

Oh well...not long now...only...
7 minutes...

Thanks ! Laughing

She is back...grinning from ear to ear ! Razz A good sign me thinks..

Bless !!

And, yes...she does want a mo-mo bike of her own.
Damn !! Shocked
Laughing

If I wasn't a bike rider myself I would have had even more doubts about letting her take pillion.
It is a scary prospect.

Oh well...one hurdle over.

So proud !

(Starts savings account for Daughters 1000cc)
Thumbs Up

Yeah..he likes that lid ..

His black ones were missing today, so he had to put those ones on,...they match his thicker red jacket.
What a fashion faux pas ! Shocked Mr. Green

Don't remind me....I have introduced her to the world of two wheels...the danger..the thrill..the dodgy biker blokes with tattoos and beer breath Laughing Thumbs Up

I was real scared first time I went pillion! Seem to remember closing my eyes...

Acually I've never been brought up to think bikes are dangerous - I was amazed about how worried all my friends went wen I started talking about going down the bike route and skipping the cars!

I want a whippy.

I tried pilion once, I nearly had an accident in my leathers, I wasn't in control which was why I was scared.

NEVER AGAIN (unless I'm on some heavy duty drugs)

May not of been scared if I had not been on a bike before.

Yeah..I guess if you see no fear in your parents with regards to bikes, then you will think it is just the same as driving a car about for example ... (if you know what I mean).. Shocked

All my mates think I am nuts to be a woman and want a ...BIKE Shocked
And especially let a child on the back.
But hey ho...they can't comment in they don't know how it feels to actually sit on a bike Thumbs Up

The idea of myself being pillion with my Fiance scares the poo out of me Shocked

It could be the loss of control thing with me too...
I do trust him, but I would like to ride for myself..I am, at the end of the day, the far superior rider, so giving up that control to another would be hard to do Wink
Laughing

For a child, totally different of course.
I do seem to recall being a pillion on the back of my brothers BIG dark red Kawasaki at the age of about 9.
The feelings I have of that were slight scary ones, but in the main..about 90%..pure fun and excitement. Thumbs Up
I totally trusted my brother. He was about 23..had ridden for years, and never came off. My Mum let me on the bike for that reason.

She then changed her mind when he had a serious accident a short while later. He lost his wonderul Road Runner helmet when it smashed and stuck in the back of his skull Confused
He was okay, thankfully, but he never got the riding bug back again.
None of his kids got to ride pillion with him, but funnily enough they all chose Motocross at about age 5/6, and were really good at it Thumbs Up
I wonder if it's in the blood..

Well your mates are NUTS, I don't see many women on bikes, as for despatching, there are only a handfull that I know of.

Most women ride scooters and don't wear very much protection, how the hell can a woman ride a scooter in a miniskirt and high heels? That makes me cringe.

More girls/ladies/women on bikes Thumbs Up

Do you know...I feel exactly the same Thumbs Up
When I came off my bike I wasn't going fast, certainly an attainable speed for a small moped/scooter, and I hurt myself...a lot !

Now, I had a heavily padded jacket, thick winter gloves, heavily padded bike trousers, thick strong boots.
I nearly ripped my little finger off. Then I stopped and thought how it could have been if I was a little girllie with mi skirt on and skimpy top/jacket. Shocked
My hands would have skimmed along that floor !

ouch

The funniest thing I ever did on a bike was let my 6 year old sister take me for a ride on a 50cc scooter. Obviously I had to change gear for her, but it was a semi-automatic. The funny thing was that she wasn't scared at all and just kept accelerating right up to top speed.

Now my sister is 12 years old. every time I talk to her, or come over on the bike she asks me if she can have a ride. Nowerdays I'm a bit more cautious, as the bike is much bigger, but I'll always take her as a pillion, she loves it. It's also become a bit of a thing that my father & sister do on the weekend. They will often go out for the day on the SR500.

My father loves bikes, my brother races bikes, I love bikes, and it looks as though my sister is gonna follow in our footsteps.

Hopefully by growing up around bikes, and having been riding as a pillion for over 6 years already, when the time comes to get her own bike she will be more aware of the bikes limitations than a lot of learners, and therefore a safer and better rider.

I wouldn't be too worried, I'm sure your old man's quite mindful of his riding when your poor little rabbit/cow-eared child's on the seat behind him. Thumbs Up

If it makes you feel any better, Jodie, I used to love getting my friend Bill drunk so he'd take me for rides on his bike. Got my first twenty or so rides from him and all were either after consuming alcohol or in persuit of it. Never once was scared. Come to think of it, maybe I'm not that bright. Oh well, that's another thread...

Am I supposed to make valid points or am I just allowed to ramble on until I accidentally hit the submit bu
