Well, I managed to get the bike out of the garage and down the ramp without dropping it - hooray! I figured Christmas day, lunchtime the roads would be quiet and I pretty much had the country lanes to myself Cool

I set my personal land speed record at 50mph (didn't think it wise to break the speed limit on my first time out) and generally had a blast! Motorbikes are ace! Very Happy Dance! Very Happy

One small problem, my journey was limited to 15km because my 'fantastic' Gore-Tex + leather gloves may as well not be there past 35mph. The ambient temperature is 6.5*C, not exactly icy. Anybody used inner gloves or have any tips on reducing fingertip pain to a minimum? If I got inners they would have to be very thin to fit my current gloves.

Oh, and a happy Christmas to you all Thumbs Up Very Happy

I don't think if you was 60MPH you would have been breaking the speed limit either. Confused Razz

I didn't reach a derestricted road, only got far enough out to reach a 50 limit Confused

Oh, BTW, just found tons of previous posts about inner gloves etc with the search tool, so only post if you feel strongly inclined Wink

Gloves - I opted for some Frank Thomas thermal lined gloves, that cost me around £45. They help, but everyone that I trained with still had cold fingers. The only real solution is heated grips!

I had my first ride on my Honda as well today - empty roads muahaha!

The snow (white christmas in glasgow) never seemed to be much of a problem and only had one minor slide on some ice - Must be all my excess arse baggage keeping it in place Razz The bike was much better than the crap we used on our CBT and is extremely easy to ride - plenty of low down grunt (4 stroke twin) so pulling away was dead easy!

I caught myself almost going onto the M8 - was just passing the on ramp and thought ooh I could go for a wee run then realised - wait not allowed on motorways! What a daft rule!

I was plenty warm all over as well: Hein Gericke leathers and EDZ thermal bodysuit thing (which works wonders)! My gloves are alpinestar leather coated with goretex and they get my hands warm without inner gloves. You might want to try them out (£85 quid) they are really well made and will last years Razz

The only thing I need now is proper boots and a neck warmer - the only bit the wind could get in!
