as modern TV is shit I regularly stream old TV shows using XBMC
currently I'm watching the new Avengers series 1 & 2 and I love it
It may be corny plots and no fancy editing but I love the nostalgia of the cars & styles
then you have Joanna Lumley at her best (not that she hasn't aged well)

going to do the Sweeney and then the professionals next
what were your favourite shows from the past (pre 90's preferred for inspiration)

did hitch hikers Thumbs Up
Aufe wierdesein pet was Ok but I prefer more action than black comedy

Spenser was too much US based format prefer the true British cop / spy / drama
I've added Edge of Darkness to my list the recent movie was Ok but the original has a better soundtrack Wink

Not exactly high speed action, but try The Brothers, brilliant period TV.

The original Avengers was a good watch, particularly the first series with Ian Hendry.

Mustn't forget The Persuaders either, at the time the most expensive TV series ever made.

Oooh...

Well, I don't know what's available on that site, but I can recommend the following:

Street Hawk - It is actually a semi decent detective series if you ignore the 300mph motorcycle.
Miami Vice - Quality programming from start to finish. Watch a single episode or watch the whole lot front to back. It is very very good. (Ignore the episode where James Brown is an alien though... definitely worst episode ever!)
Magnum PI - Watch the odd one or two. Gets a *little* samey after a while, but it's an excellent series with some underrated actors and quality writing.
Return Of The Saint - An object lesson on how to do 'confidence' from Ian Ogilvy. A smidge dated perhaps but you never know what will happen next from episode to episode, and there are definitely some masterpieces in there.
The Tripods - 1980s Sci Fi drama. Ended a season early as it was based on a trilogy of books and only two series were filmed. Has one or two 'filler' episodes but the suspense and the mystery are maintained. Holds up surprisingly well even considering the early 80s special effects.
UFO - Gerry Anderson without the puppets. Ignoring the very thunderbirds-esque vehicles (which are quite cool anyway) it's got some excellent stories and good acting. Some ropey effects but it all adds to the '60s atmosphere. I love the fact it's set in the future and in 1980 at the same time! Laughing
Seaquest DSV - OK so more '90s, but good effects combined with reasonable plots make this hold up well than a lot of older episodes of Star Trek. Stars Roy Scheider, nuff said.
Quantum Leap - What can I say? Excellent series.
Space: Above and Beyond - Best sci fi series on TV for years and years. Late nineties, decent effects, excellent tightly woven scripts with reasonable acting. Very very underrated.

I do not recommend (unless you're a fan)

The A-Team - Hasn't really aged that well
Knight Rider - I'm not sure who is more smarmy, the Hoff or Kitt.
Airwolf - OK for a couple of episodes, but very samey. Ernest Borgnine is annoying and Jan Michael Vincent is too stoned to actually act. All of the heli shots are the same every episode too.
MacGyver - Cheese tastic from Colonel O'Neil of SG1. Semi decent plots but hasn't aged well and MacGyver always escapes with the aid of a bubblegum wrapper and a racing bicycle frame. Watch if you want a laugh at the preposterous nature of it.

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.
