Errr, fuel tank? You haven't really given us much key information. What bike, what camera, what mounts do you have?

Side of engine, so it shows front wheel and suspension movement. Also captures engine noise much nicer.

I'm having the same issues. I've got Drift X170 but nowhere on the front of my Fazer I can mount it. I could possibly affix it to the side of the top-box which gives an interesting viewpoint (sort of like being filmed by a pillion passenger) but really I need a proper mounting system. I don't trust suction cups though, and it may be a cheap camera (£40 refurbished) but I'm not keen on mounting it to the engine crash bars because the lens will get showered with dirt and grit.

My drift is mounted on my crash bars but picks up engine screech as apposed to engine revs. If I mounted it higher I would get a better sound, but I need a longer bolt to hold the bracket on as I don't trust zip ties and Velcro.

when I eventually get a cam it'll be going on the bar I fitted accross the front fairing behind the screen, already has my sat nav on it, it's a very very handy bar and very stable

Would be my answer as well. I want to see what I've been looking at, whether it's crash or gash.

I was looking at this one here: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Digital-Camera-Suction-Cup-Mount-Bracket-1-4-Tripod-Camcorder-Drift-Contour-UK-/271347622691?_trksid=p2054897.l4275 which for £5 might be worth a go, but do those suction cups REALLY do the job? At 80mph I can imagine the vibrations causing the whole thing to pop off and go bouncing down the road.

I keep thinking about mounting the cam on my lid, but not sure if it looks nobbish or not.

If its a camera that can be mounted onto a top pocket, does your jacket have any top pocket you can leave half open and chest mount it?

I've seen video of someone who'd suction cupped a camera to their lid, but no way would I trust it. However, you could pull the rubber out and stick the curved cup directly on to your lid with decent adhesive pads. I'd suggest running some sort of lanyard through it as well though, just in case. </belt+braces>

nobbish maybe but
it gets very fatiguing because of the wind drag,
the pictures however are usually as good as they get.

Putting camera on top of my head = silly idea.
Using a lanyard as an anti-falling-off device = good idea. Thumbs Up

I'll give it a try, I'll buy that cheap mounting unit, suction-cup the camera to the windshield and tie a cord to it in case it comes loose.

I think right on top is more nobbish than on the side.

Why don't one of those engineering student knob-ends who swan up here asking for help with their homework actually make themselves useful and tackle this issue? A camera designed for bikers, by bikers, with genuinely universal mounting would be a serious money maker.

Because they're all doing the same homework that was set back in 1987 and Teacher gets paid the same either way.

Change of plan, it's £16 but I've bought a bolt-on mount.
