Hi guys,
I've bought another kdx200 without v5 and a half missing numerplate from a guy that took it as part of a 3 bike part ex deal. It's been stood for a few years by the looks of it . It was bought via a Facebook group advert and picked up by a friend of mine who was willing to pick it up in his works van and deliver it for me the 300 mile round trip for fuel money and a beer! Now having looked at it I'd like to fix it up and use it being the SR model Kdx it's got things like lights etc rather than my E model which just looks like it has lights!
Long story short is.... How can I find out the original reg ? Frame number I cleaned up today is not exactly easy to read due to the rust but looks like DX200G-006387. And I do know 5 of the reg numbers for sure ......can anyone help?

If it comes to it, find a website where you enter your reg number and it identifies your vehicle and cycle through the possibilities with the missing characters. Eg www.castrol.com/uk or many tyre websites.

Frame number should be 16 digits.

Standard chassis number formats came into use after that bike was new. Chassis number can easily just be a few numeric digits.

All the best

I'm having problems with the reg check sites for oil etc and I've cleaned up the frame numbers best I can which have not been tampered with by the looks but the paint had been removed prior to it being left standing outside for some years! So the corrosion has pitted quite badly on the frame numbers. Same layout and same number of digits as my other kdx from the same era so I'm sure the number of digits is right...however going to possibly need to try a few variants and don't fancy the paid option if it takes a bit of trial and error!

Dont worry about the 16 digit rubbish you have been told, and in fact modern V.I.N. sites require 17 digits to process..
There are numerous posts on the lack of 17 digits if you care to Google . Kawasaki are particularly prone to this; It depends on indended country of registration.
I have a 9 digit VIN on a 1993 ZXR from Holland.

Here is a link to a previous discussion on your problem;

Yodi is a well recognised source for your info; he now charges £25 I believe.
If you had a tame bobby; there is nothing to prevent getting your info for nix.
You would have more chance winning the lottery than the police knocking on your door if it came back as suspected stolen.

Thanks for mentioning me guys, it's £23 and if you dont get the results due to incorrect number supplied or purely a non registered bike the next check is £13.

Checks from a reg are £10 and always have been.

Thanks, Yodi

You can obliterate the vin on some shittier machine frames by over zealous Wire Brush and Detol-ing.

Also looking at eh No. using a torch from different angles can help 'develop' possi-chancities of recognising characters.

3 can be 8, C could be D O Q etc.

A spary with one of those dry deodorant sprays can help too.

Or a good rubbing. (pharr phnarr)

Bike not stolen...came with the rather unique Kawasaki original key. The frame numbers had been badly corroded where the paint had been removed at some point previous which meant plenty of scrubbing/wet and dry and acid application this morning. Used the torch trick from different angles to give it a best guess ...is it a 3....or an 8 lol! And the number yodi gave me was the same as the what's left of it painted on number plate on the bike. I was indeed missing 1 number and local mot station was not able to help with just vin number! So...now I can get the V5........anyone have or know of any kdx200 parts going spare? The motor is good...the lights work mostly...wheels are ok....everything else is OMG rough!!!

I'm only basing my reply on the system we run at work & being told that I needed a 16 digit number off my CR before they could check it for me as this was the format of chassis numbers.

HPI'd an MX125 at work, customers bike that was pretty much fit for parts as we were considering making him an offer on it. The bike flagged as stolen with a request to contact Norfolk police. Customer came and took it back, two weeks later had Norfolk police on the phone requesting owners details & were instructed not to release the bike.

Yes it does flag it, yes the police will come enquiring about it, it's a large benifit of the system. Rolling Eyes

Which digit would you omit on the more up to date plate; if 17 are listed but only 16 required ?
He has just received the details using a 12 No. format as stated two posts prior.

And as for police intervention;
They have barely the resources/inclination to attend whilst the initial crime is in process.
How would you retain the vehicle if the details are submitted via a telephone/e-mail conversation/transaction that occured fourteen days previously? Keep the notepad that the details are listed on presumably !

It is the insurance company that stood the liability that would begin an investigation.
HPI checks are far from an infallible means to check ownership of a vehicle.

To original poster;
Well done on getting correct reg details,not difficult once the informed
members are contacted.Thanks to Yodi. Thumbs Up
