Few questions if i may, going to do a bit of maitenence for the first time this weekend, weather permitting.

CHAIN - After reading around, parrafin seem a good choice for chain cleaning. Does everyone agree, where can you get it and how do you dispose of it when used? If there is rust on it, would the parrafin get it off or if not, what will? What is recommended for lube after?

OIL - any recommended types for the bike if topping up or changing?

Any other key bits i should look at?

Oil, morrison's 10w40 will do you nicely, kept topped up and changed every couple of thousand miles.

Chain cleaning, some suggest to get some old engine oil and give it a scrub with that.

Keep a check on your chain tightness, usually about 30mm ish from bottom to the top of the movement.

And don't crash!

EDIT- go over it with some allen keys to make sure everything's tight and not about to rattle loose

Chain:

Clean with paraffin or diesel. Let it soak in and use a washing up brush to scrub the links. A piece of card between the chain and wheel will prevent it from being flicked onto your tyre. Once it's clean, run the chain through a rag to remove the excess paraffin/diesel and allow it to dry for a few minutes before reapplying lube.

For lube I always recommend EP90 gear oil. It's cheap and works and is heavy enough to stay on the chain rather than fling. Apply with a clean brush, allow to soak in and run the chain through a rag to remove excess.

I keep the paraffin diesel in a container and reuse it until its too grungy to use any more. Dispose of it with your old engine oil.

Check your chain lube and adjustment regularly!

Engine oil:

Any decent 10W40 will do the job. I use Comma Eurolite semi synth for my bikes. Don't overfill and check your levels regularly.

Wilkos gear oil about £3.99 i think i paid for it, b*ll^x to £9

Old engine oil.

Drop your current engine oil and put into a lucozade sport bottle. Use that and a toothbrush to apply to your chain.

Now refill your engine with new 10w40 straight outta Morrisons/Tesco.

When the bottle has run out of lube/you come up to 1500/2000 miles then drain the oil again.

Cheers everyone. Goin for an oil change this week and will keep that for the lube. Is there a spanner in the toolset with the YBR that would do the job?

Also getting ahead of myself on the work that needs to be done and actually riding it. Have only gone out on it on Sunday and concious that anything else I have planned would mean its out of action... here's what I have, which do you think is most important to do in what order?

ACF-50 the whole thing
Oil Change
Clean and lube chain
Remove rust from bolts
Remove rust from swingarm and re-paint (out of action for at least a day)

I'm thinknig oil change, lub chain and then ACF50 it. then worry about the other bits when the weather is a bit better. then I can just get on with riding it for a bit?

Check the wear on front brake pads (should be a marker on the pad which you can see as its on the bike)

Check DOT4 brake fluid is not low (sight glass)

Check rear brake pad usage, apply rear brake and view arrow against the wear limit line on the outside of the drum.

Check tyre pressures for your weight / bike load.

Check all your bulbs are working.

Top up distilled water in battery.

Think you've got a good list (oil, chain, acf).

At some point you could check valve clearance, change spark plug, remove and clean oil filter mesh (I can't remember if the YBR has one or not). Replace air filter.

But it all costs money, some say if it aint broke don't try and fix it, plus you want to actually ride the thing Smile

Yeah getting out and riding is the main thing as only been out on it on Sunday. Think ill do check/change the oil, tyres and chain then go tear about town, weather permitting! All hinges on weather really.. haven't got a covered area to work on anyway!
