I was riding to the shop when I heard a whistling sound coming from my bike, a few minutes later the engine cut out and now it won't turn over when I press the starter; It just makes a dialup modem sound and the engine does not turn. The bike won't move forward in gear, the back wheel just drags and it does not turn over. However when I push it backwards in gear it turn the engine over and the piston moves freely. So has anyone got an idea what the problem could be.

Charge the battery, it should be spinning the starter motor. Worth pulling the spark plug out and doing a quick compression check.

You could try putting it in neutral when pushing it, may make a difference

or hold the clutch Very Happy

Will no longer push backwards in gear, i also noticed a bubble in the oil feed to the carb, so I'm pretty sure its an engine sieze due to lack of oil, can anyone run me through removing the air bubble. I was going slow when it sized there was no bang or grinding noise so hopefully it has done little damage.

Have you charged the battery, put it in neutral and pressed the start button with the spark plug out?

Might as well check there is compression and its not melted itself together.

hi there

take your spark plug out and put a tablespoon full of 2 stroke oil down the plug hole and leave it overnight.

next day put the bike into 3rd gear and gently rock the bike back and forward and maybe it will free the engine off.

will cost nothing to try it.

Spark plug out, in gear, turn R wheel. Do we have piston movement? Yes? groovy. No? You allowed a very minor 5 minute flouncy hump. If no, does R wheel turn when in gear With clutch pulled in? If no, poss gearbox issue, if yes probably further up the fuel chain, so to speak. Let us know, one bit at a time! Wink

It worked, I put 2 stroke in the spark plug hole and rocked it in second gear and it unsiezed the piston the starter turns the engine now pretty fast. I get 130psi on the compression tester but that is with a table spoon of oil in there. Would it be fine to start the bike up. what advice can you give me on what to do next. Can you premix the petrol with oil and if so what ratio.

Hi

If it had seized the top end I would be VERY surprised if it managed 130psi afterwards.

Possible it had seized the bottom end though.

All the best

Keith

Agreed, mine was 120+ when my main bearings let go. Laughing

is the bike already running premix - or is it running standard rs125 with separate 2s oil tank?

if its running standard you could put some high quality putoline or equivalent 2 stroke oil into the fuel tank but not too much or you ll risk fouling the plug badly and the bike making a lot of smoke.

if its running premix then a 1/40 mixture should be fine but dont rag it hard till you find out the problem.

yes, fine to start the bike but be gentle with it - warm it up gently and get the engine up to operating temperature by riding it gently - it wont warm up properly ticking over on the stand.

let us know how you get on with it and good luck.

been riding it since my last post and now its starting to have problems again. I stalled it yesterday at a red light and it wouldn't start again the starter was not turning the engine over there was just a buzzing noise. I put the bike into neutral and pushed it to a nearby car park. I rocked the bike in 2nd gear and the starter was turning the engine but only very weakly as if it had a flat battery, so i rocked it a bit more and the starter was working perfectly and the bike started.

I managed to drive it home but as i was going up a slight hill the bike started bogging down and stopped again even thoe I had the throttle open but it started first time after (might be a fuel mixture problem for that one). so the bikes fucked and i have no idea what is causing it any help would be much appreciated.
