Well its got to the point that I needed a rear tyre on the Gpx, and seeing as the tyre choice is limited I thought I would go down a different route.

So I managed to pick up a front and rear end off a zzr600d complete with 3 brand spanking new discs. I got some other parts as well, seat, tank, plastics, rad etc etc all for the pricly sum of £140 notes.

All went pretty well, Managed to press out the stem from the gpx yoke ok. The zzr stem was welded in so ground the weld off and pressed it out. Pressed the gpx stem into the zzr bottom yoke and mocked it up. Just got to weld the stem to the bottom yoke as per factory and make the steering stops a bit bigger as the forks hit the radiator mounts before the lock stops.

Rear end next......Hope its as straight forward.

ZZR brakes are pants!

I have a radiator fan for a ZZR600D knocking around somewhere if it turns out yours is bust

don't use imgur, it takes forever for the images to load (where i am anyway) ive always found photobucket really good

ZZr brakes have got to be better than the Gpx brakes and suspenders that were on the bike. Anything got to be an improvement.lol

I wouldn't bet on it!

I did have a GPX750 for about 3 months when abroad and the brakes were OK to be honest (although it was ridden 2 up most of the time). The ZZR600 we have has brakes which when perfect and maybe a bit better than that GPZ was, but they seize up quickly and are not great.

As a guess, the ZZR600 calipers are not very rigid, hence as you brake the caliper halves tend to splay out a bit and then the pistons are not pushing directly only the backs of the pads. GPX has one piece (sliding) calipers which should be more rigid. Down side is there is they are probably older calipers and they also have the sliding pins to seize up (plus point is that compared to the 4 pot ZZR calipers they will be a doddle to strip and rebuild).

I know exactly what your saying kickstart. I will see how I go. The biggest thing was being able to have some modern rubber. I found the 16inch front end twitchy and the tyre choice for the rear end not great. I will see how the zzr brakes are, if they are no better I might go down the gsxr1000 caliper route.

Oh also got the rear end in. It fits nice between the frame. It's only got the 17mm gpx spindle in at the moment just for checking spacing. I have got to get a drill bit to enable me to drill the frame to fit the zzr swingarm spindle. I have had to use the whole gpx linkage as the zzr swingarm came with the dog bones on but they make the bike sit to low. The gpx ones lift it, maybe not quite high enough but I will see what it rides/handles like and tweak it from there.

Hi

Think the normal calipers to use on a ZZR are the Nissins used on CBR600s (amount others).

As to the swinging arm spindle I would be tempted to use a couple of over size spacers to take up the excess rather than chop into the frame. At least means you can easily switch back if you want
