Hi all

Long time lurker, first post..

I have a Yamaha R6 with the Y.I.S.S system.

Would there be any harm in installing an alarm with a immobiliser built in as I am getting conflicting advice and I can't find anything online.

I am thinking of splitting one of the ignition wires and wiring that through the alarm as an additional small security step to the Y.I.S.S system but Yamaha were not very keen on this idea. Do I have to be careful of where I split the ignition wire with Y.I.S.S?

Or is this really just pointless with Y.I.S.S?

P.S please no don't install an alarm etc etc I have had one on my previous bike and I would never own a bike without one and it worked flawlessly, you just got to solder the connectors Wink.

Cheers all

I wouldn't say 'no don't install an alarm' but I would say, get a professional to do it.

If not it won't be recognised by your insurance as an approved install.

If that doesn't bother you then fill yer boots Wink

I don't have experience with Yam but my H.I.S.S on my blade works fine with my system 3 alarm/immob. so I see no reason why Yam's version would have a problem but I couldn't promise anything.

some help I was... lol

The yiss uses transponder technology and the bike will only un- immobilise in the presence of the correct key in the ignition. This is way more advanced that any cut the wires immobiliser/alarm you can retrofit.

If your gonna fit one then I'd do a simple cut across the starter crank wire to the solenoid and the fuel pump relay trigger wire, don't mess with the ignition wiring.

There should be a plug under the seat for you to plug in an alarm if i remember but finding one might be difficult. There will be no problem installing an alarm as you cut the circuits to the engine and fuel pump to immobilize the bike anyway so the YISS wont be affected really.
