Posted: 11:10 - 10 Jan 2014 Post subject: YBR 05 centre stand. Need advice please... |
 |
|
Hi,
I'm trying to remove my centre stand so to fit a new one, I've taken everything else off but I'm now faced with the stands pivot pin....??? How on earth do I get this off?
I have never done any thing like this before and I presumed there would be some obvious way of doing it. Seems I was wrong.
Any help would be greatly appreciated as this good weather my disappear before I finish this thread.. ____________________ there is nothing like the smell of 2stroke in the morning

Which area are you trying to remove?

Yeah I'm fully aware that the chain is bad condition, but my bikes been off the road a while. It's been under tarp but with all this rain and damp stuff like that happens..
The reason I need to fit the stand is I don't won't it being blow over in the wind and having to cause me to fit new brackets and handle bars like I'm have to do after this if I manage to get it off...
Thanks for the oblivious advice.. ____________________ there is nothing like the smell of 2stroke in the morning

Is it that big rod in the middle of the picture?
Try looking for anything relevant to it, Engineering can be fun, there is always a way, try loosening any bolts, screws. (Please ensure its not a bolt for the bike)
Could try lubing it up and lightly tapping the end with a hammer if there is none. Can't me much help sorry as I can't see much. ____________________ Motorcycle riding can be really cozy. If you want to be a little closer to your passenger, brake a little quicker for the next stop. |

My YBR blew over out on the drive a while back too - just after I'd fitted a nice new set of end weights
Quick glance at the trusty old Haynes manual and it says to remove the rear brake pedal and OPTIONALLY the exhuast for better access though clearly you don't have a problem there. Once you've gotten the springs and everything else out the way it says to "Unscrew the pivot bolt and remove the stand" so I'd say a lot of WD-40, unscrew it, and get a hammer to it ____________________ Current Bike: 2008 Yamaha YBR 125 |

A 10mm blot fits in there it has six sides so a hex or alum key won't fit so a male socket should... ____________________ there is nothing like the smell of 2stroke in the morning

:D ok prerssed for time so not read all tghread, it may be sorted by now but.............
the long pin ( tube ? ) which sticks out one side and is flanged on the other, which passes thru c/stand and frame is the stand pivot pin, the bit you cant get out.
it should rotate within the centre stand as the stand pivots on this pin, rather than the pivot pin rotating with the stand and wearing the frame holes oval..........
so, grip pivot pin and rotate stand...........lub really well and try again.
however if there is defo rust stains there so its defo rust seized into the stand, use water.
shock horror i hear..........well water is free, very biodegradeable, no toxic, washes out rust ( as its water based ) and easy to heat as it wont burn.
wash out rust, and keep trying, some heat ( thermal shocking ) may/will help.
heat parts ( the centre stand Tube, the tube the pivot pin goes thru ) red hot and quench with water till cold. repeat.
if the pivot tube can be rotated even a second relative to the stand, then you have won, just patience needed.
alternatively bash the fuck out of the pin, and finally saw pivot pin through in two places so the stand can be removed. either buy new stand and pivot pin or bench mount stand and heat etc........
these can be sods ( c50/70/90 etc ) so try gentle approach first and be patient.
ps lube pivot when job done every week, of fit grease nipple and dont sit on the bike when on the CENTRE STAND. :karma: ____________________ nuts about bikes |
