Can I use 10/40w semi synthetic motor oil from Asda for my Hornert 600cc, instead of specific motorbike oil at 3x the price

I always check the JASO rating on the oil bottle before purchase to see if it is compatable, bikes can be slightly different beasts, what with combined engine and gear box, air cooling etc.

Beware of oils with friction modifiers. Asda oil wont have them in, but castrol magnatec does. Stick with the cheap stuff from Asda

Pretty much what it sounds like, additives to make the oil have a lower friction coefficient.

This is fine in cars where you want it to be nice and slippery against all your metal components, but bikes often have a wet clutch, which you don't want to have low friction. Laughing

as long as the cap does not say "Energy Conserving" it should be ok, as this indicates that it contains the dreaded friction modifiers.

Crack on with the overpriced shit then. Laughing

Given your somewhat dodgy advice on a damaged alternator cover, I think you're not as knowledgable as you'd like to think you are. Razz

Castrol gtx 10w/40 in the 500, £15 from costco, expensive race shit in the 636.
