wont idle WITH choke on

As title says really. My little 125 starts fine 9/10 without the choke but when I do need the choke it won't idle with the choke on, I have to keep revving or will cut out.

I'm not very good with the ins and outs of motorbikes, it just get me from a to b so please be gentle with the mechanical terms

My 125 had no choke, half choke, and full choke settings.

Try a little less choke.

I wouldn't consider it unusual so long as it settles down and will idle with it closed.
A lot of bikes you need put it in gradually, until it's at half or less the throttle response is very poor.

Someone will post in a minute that their bike hardly need choke and they can just ride off normally in 10 seconds; this is probably true but there's a great deal of variation between models and even individual bikes of the same model.

im going to be that person! my bike will start normally most of the time and i can ride off quite quickly.

my bike is a keeway superlight. the choke has 3 positions. off at the bottom, half and full. if i put choke on it wont even rev above 4000 and will cut out and wont idle at all.

I understand that the bike does not need the choke if it will start without but just for my own knowledge should it still work or not if it starts without?

I dont know if this is related at all but there is no writing on my fuel pump to say if it is open or closed other than 2 icons which i will attempt to draw...

i am assuming the half full or no lid is fuel pump open from what i can make out from the very poorly written (and barely english) manual.

the bike runs with it in either position but would this make a difference to the choke in anyway? (or the performance of the bike for that matter!)

Well I assumed it was the reserve tank but I hadn't heard it called fuel pump before and that's what it calls it in the manual so it confused me. The choke is on the carb

As far as I know, a lot of more rudimentary chokes have this issue, as applying the choke doesn't increase the idle speed. My CG has a tendency to cut out whilst warming up with choke unless you open the throttle slightly as well. That said, I can usually take it off choke almost immediately on starting.
