Been offered a Zx9r for 1200 standard apart from micron. MOTed for 12 months. Black. Worth it? Viable upgrade from SRAD 750? It has 14000 on clock.

98 will be a C1, they're stonking bikes but the C1 gearboxes shit themselves.

Unsure if the engine is anything like the B4 model, but the B4 that is crammed into my ZXR750 is a peach, enough to get you into trouble Shifty

Yeah it's a C1. Not been taxed on the road since 2009.

How do they handle?

I bought a good condition C2 in 2008 for £1500 with 24k on the clock and a recent major service.

The price of bikes has gone up since then.

The C2 is a better bike as Kawasaki changed something in the gearbox to prevent failures.

The last generation F bikes are the best though.

Anybody ridden both?

I don't really want to be making a sideways step, the handling on my GSXR is better than anything I've ridden so far...

I rode a CBF1000 and that was just awful, I don't want anything like that.

They are a different type of thing really. The GSXR is more frenetic and sharper. The ZX9R is slightly more sports tourer-y really. It's not a bad handler but I don't think it's quite in the same league as an SRAD.

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.

I can't really give that decent a comparison I'm afraid.
As stock, at best on handling I'd expect it to be more of a sideways move.
Engine is going to have a little more on top and more midrange, so a bit lazier.

If you're looking for a decent step up, I think I'd go for an R1 minimum - or any of the litre superbikes (not Thunderace). Or a later model GSXR.

I'd say the SRAD I've ridden (albeit a 600, so different forks and swinger) handled better than my 9R did.

I did like the ZX9 though. The engine was a stonker, but not mental fast like a GSXR1000.

How is the price?

I went to view the bike and it's in good condition.

Low enough price for me to take a punt at it Thumbs Up You can't really find many nice bikes on ebay for £1200.

From the stuff I was reading when I wanted a 9R, they came in blue, green or red in 98.

The rear panel in the 2nd photo also looks rather "flat" than gloss.

I agree the colour looks a bit dull and "aftermarket"

https://www.zxforums.com/forums/zx-9r-forum/389-zx9r-oem-colors-over-years-usa-canada.html

This link shows the stock colours of ZX9Rs, if you go to 98 C1s red blue green

They did do a black one.

I sold my C1 with a ZX12R shock, Z1000 gearbox (that wasn't a fun job) powdercoated wheels, new tyres and carbon can / shimmed needles for £1500.

They're not worth a lot.

I wouldn't pay £1200 for a C1. I'd add on about £400 and get an E.

Check it doesn't jump out of 3rd or 4th.

Just had a look, apparently a very rare option was black, but literally so uncommon, the back panel however would lead me to believe its a respray.
