More intrigued on this one than anything.

Who has this as part of their insurance, and what gains does it offer?

As far as I can tell the policy only covers loss in the event of an accident.

So in a non-fault claim if you didn't have it, you'd claim from the third party anyway.

In a fully comp claim, if you didn't have it, you'd claim from your own insurance.

If you were TPFT, it'd be foolish to claim for new helmet and leathers if you have no bike to ride (They'd also have data on you stuffing it to further jack up your premiums).

Perhaps I'm jaded and cynical, but this to me seems like the legal cover extra that would appear to be a complete waste of money.

You can cover it all on your home contents insurance for next to nothing. You don't even have to specify your kit usually.

Have it my policy with MCE, thrown in for free until you need it and they tell you it's level 1 up to £350 with £100 excess. Tossers told me someone should have phoned to offer me further cover after taking out my policy.

Crashed my GSXR1000 K3 and my grands worth of newish kit earned me £249.77!!! Cost me £20 to send it all in to get it paid out too.

What policy? Fully comp? If so, Shirely your insurance should have covered helmet and leathers too unless stated?

Even less reason to take it out.

Think I paid 50 quid excessamnd got paid put around a grand. Insurance company didn't want to see my kit and let me keep it. More importantly, my bike insurance knew nothing of an accident.

Yep! Bike hire too. Then when you need it you're told 125 only then they put you off until the assessor has seen the bike then as its written off I got no hire bike!

My excess on the Gixer was £550 so for £3k worth of bike and £1k worth of kit I got £2700!!!! MCE are cheap for a reason!

Bennett's chuck edit in for free along with breakdown cover with RAC for me. Never tried to claim for anything though so I am not sure how effective it is or how much they will let me claim for.

Why would you assume that anything other than the insured vehicle was covered?

thing is everyone who tries to claim was suddenly wearing an arai helmet, dainese leathers, gloves and alpinestars boots, the insurance companies used to ring us up as the couldn't believe a helmet could cost £500, plus £800 for a suit

That's why you whore your kit... like me... and do reviews of them on youtube. Proof if ever you need it!

Those prices are an underestimate - I can't afford to replace my Arai Corsair and RX-GP's, what with them costing north of £700 now! Same with leathers! But then again, I am an alpinestars and Arai tart.

Having had dealings with insurers in the past I'm loathe to assume that even the insured vehicle is covered! If they can wriggle out of a payment they will every time

I just would have expected it to be. Have since learnt this isn't the case.

My mate had a smash, helmet and leather cover refused to pay out unless he had receipts. Thumbs Down

I've had it included for free in the past - not sure to what extent. I haven't bothered with it since as my gears not all that expensive to justify the excess etc.

Would this allow you to claim for it if you have an accident though, [no idea so i'm just guessing here] but wouldn't the items be expected to be in the house/damaged in the house to make a claim under the home insurance Thinking

Or is it just a case of saying 'my leathers got shredded/helmet smashed to pieces at home, somehow' and thats enough Laughing
