Waffling intro: My first fags were a packet of Players Gold Leaf when I was ten (cost 34p iirc). But I didn't buy regularly until about 13. By my late teens I was on roll ups, mainly. And smoked them continuously until late, late 30s. A few years later I got into bikes, and started up again for some bizarre reason. Huge regret, that.

Then, a week before xmas, I came down with life-threatening man flu and haven't touched one since.

It's been about a month now and has been much, much easier than when I gave up in my late 30s.

I haven't used any nicotine replacements or gadgets.

So - who else has or is giving up, how's it going, and another related question: Are these electronic gadgets used primarily by those trying to give up, or are their people who use both real fags and the vapers, etc.? What's happening with that stuff?

One other thing - since giving up my feet are never cold any more. Wtf. Kind of rules.

Your circulation will have improved, so you'll probably be warmer all over!

I found that I didn't struggle to quit, but I just couldn't stop snacking when I did. That said, I'd say I'm only a light smoker, not a 40 a day man.

Yeah I was thinking it had to be a circulation thing. As for quantity, I would have described myself as a medium-to-heavy smoker - and would be doing in 12.5g of Cutters Choice or Golden Vagina every other day. Or every 1.5 days.

"Funny" but interesting detail - don't think I'd ever have got back into it if it hadn't been for those bloody menthol filters. Seems like they came on the market in between me giving up the first time (about 5 years ago), and a couple of years ago. In any case, and imo, they made roll ups a much more enticing prospect.

Presume you've seen it already but this is a wealth o' info Razz https://www.bikechatforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=274478

I don't smoke at all now. I've smoked on and off for years, sometimes not for months, sometimes a few a week, sometimes a few a day, just depended at the time.

Have barely touched more than 20 fags last year since getting vaping though. I personally didn't do it to 'quit' so much as I wasn't that addicted in the first place in terms of nicotine, I just enjoy/ed smoking. This fills the gap fine for me personally.

Much more enjoyable and obviously none of the health side effects and other negatives that come with smoking. Cost is also very minimal unless you are a seriously heavy vaper, and even then its ten fold cheaper than the equivalent in fags.

I started with one of these basic kits and its done me fine https://www.liberty-flights.co.uk/product.asp?id=180 - occasionly replaced/got new tanks that you put the liquid in to have additional flavours on the go at once, but only a quid or two each time. Batteries still going strong and lasts me a couple of days between charges which takes 15 mins on a USB.

Theres way more specific technical stuff in terms of the setup you use/liquids that you can get into if you're interested or picky - the BCF thread goes into all that if you wanted to give it a go.

Stop smoking fags, just stop...
Vape some 1.8mg/18% juice instead.

Holy crap - that's a fair wodge of dosh there. Annually I reckon mine would be more like £750. No wait - £900 odd.

That was part of the problem of smoking roll-ups. They're so comparatively cheap that there's no decent financial incentive to jacking it in.

I bought an e-cig last year, the mix your own juice type!
I hated the tobacco flavourings so cut them out straight away and found a flavour and nicotine content that I liked.
I have never made a concious descision to pack in cigarettes and still smoke as well as vape.
However as time has gone by I've been smoking fewer cigarettes, I've gone from 20 - 25 fags a day to 7 to 10 a day, without even noticing.
I don't feel the need to take a packet of cigarettes with me where ever I go, anymore.
Funnily enough, I feel that I haven't replaced the fags, (I'm not smoking), with vaping. By that I mean, previously I would smoke, say, 20 times a day, now smoking plus vaping does not equal 20 times a day.
Some days I will smoke only 5 or 6 fags a day, a couple of weeks ago I thought I'd smoked loads, it turned out I'd smoked ten.
If the current trend carries on, I guess, in time I will cut out the fags.

In summary, it seems I'm cutting out smoking gradually, without even thinking about it!

The only other thing I would say is, mixing your own juice can be a bit of a bind, buy some ready made juice, as a back up to your homebrewed juice!

I've been looking at the starter kit.
Would it be better to go for the menthol or tobacco flavour for the first time ?
I've read that the tobacco flavour is a bit sweet ?
Been smoking cutters choice baccy for years.
Thanks

I've tryed a few 'tobacco' ones and found them all more like maple syrup flavour, but maybe just be shit liquids i've happened to try.

Menthols easy to get on with, and less likely to be a bad flavour. A lot of liquids i've tryed have been quite hit and miss, one companies 'cherry' that tastes great can be totally different to another companies 'cherry' which makes you want to wretch Neutral

I found the menthol flavouring overpowering and I find most flavours are sweet, but, as Cansa said, you get used to the flavours after a while!

Think i'll start with tobacco flavour one then.

Bit confused about all the atomizers, clearomizers, wicks, tips and other stuff so this looks ideal.

Time to place my order Thumbs Up

The basic kits are so cheap you don't really need to fiddle with parts if you're happy with the vape you're getting, just occasionly replace the tank every month/few months which is a couple of quid at most.

Pretty much just a case of keeping the battery charged, unscrewing and refilling the tank when its low and jobs a good'un :up:https://i39.tinypic.com/2cy5jdc.jpg

Dont want to go into too much detail in this thread as there is a 27 page thread just above that covers everything from who on here is a vaper, how they find it, what flavours work, what kits to buy etc... however the main things you need to know are:

Starter kits cost £20-£25.
Liquid costs £5-£10.

And as an added bonus to enjoying the benefits Vaping gives;

I use e-cigs every now and then and I don't smoke. Had the odd one in the past while drinking but to be frank I couldn't smoke all day unless I were seriously addicted, the smell and mess would just bother me too much.

I don't really find e cigs addictive. They are pleasant to use, but I won't really miss them if I leave it a week. Coffee by contrast whacks me with much stronger withdrawal symptoms etc.

I could just be an anomaly but there does seem to be a body of evidence gathering that cigarettes and tobacco are addictive for more reasons than just the nicotine. Cigarette manufacturers chuck all sorts of stuff in there, anaesthetics to calm your throat for example.

Hell, the fact people use them to quit seems to me to be proof itself that they are less addictive than cigarettes. Otherwise why bother?

Oh, and the cost savings. Even if I wanted to smoke and didn't give a toss about the health effects, there is no way I'm chucking £1000+ a year at what I'd consider to be a hobby.

Vaping is cheaper than drinking unless you go for the hobby kits etc. Essentially because it's untaxed as of yet.

Thats what i'm hoping for Very Happy
I'm not a big smoker but still spending around £9 a week on average.

That and the smell of smoke lingers on your hands and the ash gets all over the car etc.

I also hope that it will help toward giving up eventually.

I smoke roll up's and also have a E-Cig, just because I can really, it's something to get the flavor of cigs out my mouth, fun to play with when bored, plus indoor smoking, but they definitely work, sometimes I have it instead of a cig and go for hours without one, but I always have my morning and night time cig.

Even rollie smokers will save money, just not as much as filter smokers.

The expense is in the beginning when your buying the hardware.

My advice. Buy 2 Vision spinners, 2 chargers and a mini protank 2 from https://myepack.co.uk/ and get some juice for it.

Enjoy your nicotine without stinking, coughing violently in the mornings with the added bonus of being able to breathe again.

I haven't touched a ciggie for nearly 2 months.

I'm sure i'm probably addicted to the nicotine but its also the excuse to get away for 5 minutes.

At work i'll nip out half way through the morning for a rollie and just having that few minutes break makes a difference.

Same when i'm working on the bike, car, shed roof whatever.
After skinning your knuckles and cursing just taking a step back and having a smoke can help.

I'm really hoping that this does the trick Thumbs Up

I can confirm that I too like the "break" element of having a smoke, and these things still do the trick!

Did it for me, I was the same generally. Most of the smoking I did do was either at work on breaks or when drinking, at home sober I rarely ever smoked, and otherwise it was only rarely.

I still go out with it to 'smoke' now with people having fags most of the time - benefit is of course when its pissing with rain and freezing I can sit indoors vaping away in comfort watching them outside Twisted Evil
