Just spend the past few days getting a car on the road (Vectra) only to find the V5 has been misplaced. Bit annoying as MOT is booked and everything. I've had a bit of a Google and people reckon you can go to a DVLA office place and do it. More Googling revealed that they closed them all recently, great. I also read you can do it at the Post Office but I've just filled in a V62 and it says on there you can't... confused Confused Confused Confused

Anyone got any recent experience with this? It's a total pain in the arse, all these hoops to jump through just to give the Government money, usually they are all to eager to tax us but not when it comes to the DVLA.

Is the V5 in your name or does it go to a different address?

You can tax online which will check all your docs for you against magical databases but it will send the tax disc to the address listed on the V5.

If you're the registered keeper on the v5 you can tax on the v62 at the post office, if not then you've got to wait for the v5.

Dammit, I thought you could tax it from the reg number online. You need the number from the V11 reminder or from the V5.

I did post the other day that the post office can sort me out but went today and that is not the case! The computer said no and I rang the DVLA up who also said no. Have to wait 4 - 6 weeks... All this fannying on for an honest tax paying citizen to get a car on the road. No idea why they make is so difficult, the DVLA is a total joke.
