Hello everyone,

I moved in my new 'hood' yesterday and low and behold i was two wing mirrors down on my Honda PS 125 this morning..

Apart from putting a cover on it, anyone got any suggestions for preventing this in the future please?

Much obliged,

Do they snap off or need a spanner? Not sure there is anything aside from removing the each night.

Not much really.

The person who needed mirrors now has some so hopefully that's an end of it.

Paint them pink with fairy stickers on them?

Simple thing would be to take them off before you enter your house, but surely you have thought of that.

Or move the bike into your house for security.

Or move.

Oh c'mon Hand

If he'd moved to Toxteth, all that would have been left would be the wing mirrors and even then, they'd be being used by the local 5 year olds to cut up some charlie.

You can get 'security' bolts. But you can also easily buy the bits to undo them. Does make it a bit harder.
Mirrors tend to be quite universal, but it could easily be another bit off your bike next time.

I was presuming they were the type that screw into a female thread mounted on the handlebars/lever assembly. In which case it would be tricky to stop someone simply unscrewing them without also rendering them difficult to adjust (I did think that through-drilling the casting and bolt then putting a rowl pin through would work).

If they are bolted on, rather than a security bolt, use a socket head capscrew, drop a ball-bearing into the socket head then fill it with candle wax so it's flush across the top. Confuses the hell out of theives. If you need to undo it, you simply melt the wax out with a lighter.

Hopefully

More than likely though its an intensely irritating little chav who doesn't even have a ped but just wants to fuck up your day and will do it again as soon as you replace them. That's my guess anyway.

Oh, sorry; so was I thus mentioning universal, then completely ignored the concept I was thinking about Smile.

Could drill and tap a while through the base so there's a small bolt going through to hold it in - use a security head or Stinkwheel's suggestion on that.

Didn't realise this happens. I had a set of new hubcaps on my car last less than an hour after a trip to Tesco but mirror's???

A woman came into our local Halfords whilst I was buying car crap a few years ago and bought about 10 rattle cans of bright pink paint and then started spraying her bike in the car park. Tyres aswell and it looked bloody aweful. I cant remember what the bike was but it was nearly new at the time. I stood in total disbelief as the staff approached her as she screamed that her last bike had been stolen and the feckers wouldn't be doing it again! Shocked

Sounds like the easiest solution is to screw them off each time i get home, however i doubt ill get round to actually doing this..

Will have to just pray he's now got his fix and will leave my shit alone!

Fingers crossed.. thanks all

Which bit of London have you moved to? I'm in Plaistow, and have never had any bike bits stolen.

Write "I'm watching you" in felt pen on the glass.

Then while he is looking round to see if you really are watching, sneak up and hit him with a housebrick.

If they are the screw in type, see if you can get a machine shop to cut some more thread on the mirror arm and then add another nut to it - that way you can tighten the nut against the mirror and hopefully it wouldn't just be a case of unscrewing them, they'd need a spanner too.

Hey,
Can you not lock tab and lockwire them? That way They can't simply be unscrewed.
Just a thought.
