Hi guys, Been riding around on a 50cc Honda scooter for a few months now but its completley done in and time to get a 125 i think!,
iv been looking at a Lexmoto Arizona 125, iv always got got the general idea that you should Stay away from Chinese Bikes, but i really cant afford to get something more than say £1200?

and i mean going for something Second hand would mean i have no warranty on it but the dealership i may get the lexmoto from give 12 months parts and labour for the Lexmoto? Looking for a bit of advice preferably from people who have rode a 2013-14 Lexmoto Bike?

(ps if someone in glasgow wants to sell me a nice 125 for my price range id be intrested also Wink )

If you want new and like the custom/cruiser look how about a Pioneer Nevada? There is a seller on Ebay putting them out new for £995 (though you will need to register it for £55). It's a pretty good example of Chinese bike and has an active owners club.

If you want to stick with your local lexmoto seller then I'd get the Vixen. It's barely distinguishable from the Arizona, costs a lot less and is sold under many other names by other importers so finding advice/parts/etc is simple and cheap.

£1200 though can get some decent jap stuff 2nd hand, just ensure you have someone with you mechanically minded when you buy it so you don't get a lemon.

Probably a torrent of people are going to tell you that Chinese bikes depreciate by a factor of 10 million bazillion trillion and parts can't found...... any new bike depreciates as soon as you buy it Chinese or Jap and as for parts they are easily found and cheap.

What is the consensus on here is that the chinese bikes are actually getting better but you NEED to be on top of the maintenance to spot problems early and fix/replace as needed.

£1200 can get you a very reliable jap bike though and possibly more option of insurers too

£1200 will get you a stupidly tidy Yamaha YBR with extensive parts backup...

If I had the option of a noodle box or a jap winrar, I'd have jap.

Lexmoto's are meant to be some of the better Chinese bikes and as said above if you keep onto of maintenance it should last.

If you want a low maintenance, affordable bike… i'd go for a second hand jap'

A few examples of Jap' bikes that are within your budget:

Yamaha YBR 125

Suzuki GZ125

Honda CBR 125

You can get one delivered, you do know that right Wink £100 usually.

What is your rough location, there has to be a suitable Japanese 125 in your locale.

the HN-125 is ok, a member on here owned one IIRC.

As I mentioned before, you will just have to be much better on maintenance, with Japs you can probably get away with, oh it's cold out, I'll do the chain tomorrow. But with the chinese I wouldn't.

Changing the oil very frequently isn't expensive and I reckon will make the engine last much longer, and also keeping the bolts all nice and tight etc you'll be ok.

Herrow.

HN125-8 / Lexmoto Vixen is decent enough. You can't lose much on them and they're a doddle to ride. I'd have another.

What would you say between the Vixen and the HN125-8?

Same bike, both made by Dihao (and also sold as the Haotian HT125-8).

Having bought the Huoniao HN125-8 from Learner Legal, I'd go the other route and get the Lexmoto.

The HN comes unregistered and you need to insure it on the VIN number, which sharply reduces the number of insurers who will touch it. You then need to register it and wait on the DVLA allocating a license plate number, then swap the insurance over (possibly getting mugged on charges), all of which takes time.

For the small saving that gets you, I'd skip that tosh and go for the Vixen. It'll remain easier to insure and to sell on, and your local dealer might actually offer something like a warranty on it.

I'd like to be clear that I'm not recommending them, I'm saying that I'd have another. That's not the same thing.

If you do go that way though, the Houniao owners forum is a decent resource.

One thing to watch out for is the sidestand cut-out switch. The cabling for it runs under the engine via a connector block that will corrode and give you problems unless you sort it out.

I have had a Lexmoto Arizona from new for 2 years now and have had no real problems with it. As a reasonably experienced biker who has returned to biking after 30 years (I last rode a Yam Virago 535) I was far too cautious with regard to the engine size although the seat height suits my short legs!
I know that Chinese bike generally have crap reviews but I reckon that Lexmoto are pretty good for the price. I admit that initially I was a bit disappointed with its lack of power (top speed of 45mph) after carefully running it in but I remedied this by changing the main jet for a larger 105 size. It now has 40% more power and can hit 60+mph and still returns 100+ mpg!!
I keep it garaged and it's as good as new; no rust and plenty of shiny chrome still!
Ok, so I wouldn't dare thrash the Arizona as I would a Jap bike but I reckon that if its treated right it'll last a long time. It's engine and carb are very basic and simple to work on which makes servicing cheap if you can do it yourself as I do!
If you can't afford a decent Second hand Jap bike a Lexmoto Arizona is a decent, reliable buy to get you around but don't expect any sparkling performance or outstanding comfort!

Some of them are.

It's great that your Arizona is working out, but I'd question whether it's worthwhile paying the extra £200 over the Vixen, unless you really want that silhouette. Why they offer not one but two premium cruisers at £1400 just baffles me.

I rode a Lexamoto Arizona for my CBT when it expired, and while it was a cracking laugh (the instructor and I were pissing ourselves for hours) and its fairly comfy once you get used to the seating position, its fairly heavy (130kg) and woefully underpowered (10.2bhp) even for a 125.

125s are awful enough as it is, without making it worse for yourself. Buy something that's at least close to the learner legal limit.
