I have just bought a new Honda vlx600 and I am very keen to get insurance of some sort. It is currently housed away safely but I am still wanting to get it insured.

What are my options?

Need to get reassurance asap..

#1.1 Laid up insurance, for example here or here
AND
#1.2 SORN it. It must have third party insurance covering it (laid-up will be fire and theft) or be SORNed, with no (well, very few) exceptions.

OR

#2 Get on to Bikesure and ask them about covering you on your provisionaL entitlement until you've passed your tests. That doesn't mean that you can ride it until then, unless you're accompanied by a DAS instructor, or on test. If you can find a legal way to get it to the test centre though, you can sit your tests on it.

You should have no problem insuring it on your provisional. I did the same thing a few years back.

Get the cheapest quote you can on a comparison site, then phone the company directly to take out the policy. That way you'll be able to explain the situation and have it confirmed as o.k before you take out the policy.

It needs SORNing if it's not insured.

OK - Surly I have a cross-over period though, like a week or so - transitional 'shop around' etc.

Can't have anything nice these days can you without the cun*s wanting something from you?!

You'll probably be ok, but they could.

Remember, they're wankers, who have targets to hit to maximise their income. You're an easy target for a few quid.

Hi

I recently bought a cg125 and I SORNd it, or at least filled the paperwork out with the date of my purchase.

I posted the paperwork on that date too ... honest, with the new keepers slip.

If you post it a month later than you should but you have the dated and signed form, that everything has to be correct and not forged or in anyway untrue, you'll be fine!

I may or may not have been trying very hard to not out myself in this statement so I bet it's not the easiest of reads.

Don't SORN it, just insure it!

You'll start building NCB and if the worst happens and the bike gets nicked, at least you're covered (whether you'd actually bother to claim or not is another thing!).

Makes sense!

I'm gonna call around today and as someone mentioned call up and explain my situ with not actually riding it for a month or 2 (sadly).

Thanks.

There's none in law.

In practice, you should get about a month's notice before receiving a nastygram.

Yes, they are cunts.
