I don't not like trikes or quad bikes but what are the point of them especially trikes? Quads have more use off road than on the road but trikes aren't good off road or on road.

I mean some of them look quite good and must be a good achievement to have built one but they seem to be all the bad things about a car and bike put into one vehicle.

You can't filter on a trike, can't park near enough anywhere you like and surely they won't have the same power as a bike being heavier and things like overtaking would be harder to do, not only through less power than a bike but can't easily flow back into traffic on the correct side of the road.

You also have the fact that you can't carry much on them either maybe slightly more than a bike depending on how storage space was added to the design and some trikes can take extra passengers but then you also have the down side of no weather protection so you still get wet when it rains. Might as well buy a convertible car in all fairness.

As for quad bikes it's all of the above but can't carry much more than a bike can although has I said they have use off road.
Both trikes and quads look and sound in some cases really good but don't see much point in them. I know bikes aren't as practical as a car but they have their own pros like being able to filter and overtake easily, not to mention how fun they are to ride.

Wouldn't it be a boring world if we all liked the same things?

Who are you referring too? If it's directed at me, I ride a bike.

Quads are used extensively on farms / agriculture - i.e big fields with LOADS of mud & a lot of acreage to cover where you wouldn't (normally) be able to ride your bike to herd the sheep /cows/giraffes/wildebeest etc.

Trikes are made fro peepole hoo drunkt tea mutch. Hic! Smile

Actually - trikes are brilliant - Especially for people who may have lost the use of a limb(s). Girl near me has one - Fookin excellent to see her raorin around with her wheelchair on the back! Respect!!!! Thumbs Up

Yeah I get the use of quads on farms etc but on roads they are near to pointless. I've even seen ones that are really racy looking???

I agree trikes are good for people with loss of limbs. At Jack hills cafe in Towcaster a guy rides a trike and only has one arm. Suppose they are useful if you have lost a limb as they are the next closest thing to a bike except you can't filter etc. That same guy at Jack Hill cafe has a fake skeleton sitting on the rear seat with one of it's hands giving the finger XD.

I can understand the style thing with a trike in a similar manner to kit cars, bit of fun on the weekend etc, bit more wind in your hair than a car.

can't see the point behind half the style quads you see on the road, would happily have a proper agri-quad, considered one for getting to and from work over winter but decided it didn't have any benefits over just getting a car so carried on with the bike.

Trikes used to be used for that, but their sale was banned in the mid 1980s (even 2nd hand ones already owned). Too many people crashed when they fell over while cornering, or just ran their own feet over.

All the best

The point of them is people like different things.

What's the point in angst and whining about trikes and quads?

Who said I was whining? As I said I don't dislike them I like most vehicles just don't see much of a point in them?

Quads are a lot of fun in the snow. They can also be used for slug pelleting, carrying dead sheep and towing where other vehicles cannot get. Most farms aren't ring fenced, you have to ride the quad on the road to get to various fields.

I understand the field to field thing but I've seen people riding quads that are designed for road use rather than agricultural use. Mainly 17 - 19 year old's.

I know what you mean about road going quads, such as the Renault Twizy, they aren't my cup of tea but then I don't like Smart cars either.

Trikes are great for bikers who've done too much tarmac eating or fat people who would engulf a bike.

Whilst we're on the subject, what's the point of a four-stroke, slow-poke 125 being designed like a track bike, eg CBF?

And why do people ride motorbikes when they might get wet/die (possibly in the same day)?

Everyone should be forced to buy a Ford Focus. They are sensible, and come in both grey and beige. Good in all weathers, and can carry lots of shit.

Whats wrong with a CBF? They don't look like a track bike they look like a general commuter 125 which is what they are. The YZF or CBR look like sports bikes which although are slightly quicker than the CBF they can't go as fast as they look. The CBF is quite capable of doing 65 mph which is enough for commuting to work and riding round town. Even leisure riding is doable on a CBF or any other 125 bike for that matter.

The CBF is excellent in every other aspect especially fuel and handling. I can easily get 230 miles for £10 on my CBF.

We ride bikes because besides being fun, you can filter etc and offer advantages over a car except for practicality. Yes you get wet but if you're to much of a pussy to ride in the wet then no one's forcing you to do so.

Because some days I may feel like the bike isn't suitable. I'd take the car.

If I had a quad, I'd probably take that.

Quads are great fun off road and you can take the mrs without worrying about falling off.

I particularly like the Polaris RZR's after renting one in Ouray and Moab Cool

Never been a trike fan myself but if others like em, fair enough.
I remember taking my lads to a place called Clicker trikes on the A38 near Liskeard some years ago and we had right old laugh riding (and falling off) them around a track in an old quarry.
Wouldnt want to ride one on the road any more than I'd want drive a combo again.
Well... maybe for 10 minutes just for a laugh, but thats it.
