Phrase shamelessly stolen from G in another thread somewhere, but describes perfectly what we're looking for. I used to ride a DRZ400SM a lot and I loved how relatively light it was, or how the weight was distributed. I found riding at slow speed *very* easy on it.

What are other bikes are styled in a similar fashion to the DRZ400, good slow speed handling, fantastic steering lock, where the servicing is listed in miles rather than hours?

I would say G's catagory could be applied to any single cyl enduro/dirt bike that left the factory with the specific intention of being used on public highways. So I would put my SMC into this catagory (at the top end of it tho because its clearly the best), as its just a bit to fat to be what might be considered a pure super. And obviously comes from factory with all the necessary gubbins to make it useful on the road.

My usual definition is more focused on the heavier ones with less power; at least the KTM has more power than most competition bikes, rather a good chunk less for a lot of the super-heavy ones.

Something like the 660 factory I definitely wouldn't include - but not sure that was ever really intended for road use (would love them to make a 690 version, while we're on it.)

Anyway - the DRZ is pretty much in a class of it's own, bar other bikes that use the same engine.
There's a couple of trail 250s you can get in SM trim, but you're losing out a chunk of power.

On the other side there's the serious commuter motos that Paddy mentions - heavy and barely faster than the DRZ.

One bike I would certainly consider is the G650X in it's supermoto version. It uses a modified F650 single engine, but only weighs slightly more than the KTM/Husaberg (about 10kg more - so not too much more than a DRZ), but has a good bit more power than the DRZ yet still has 6k service intervals listed.
I had the enduro version for a test ride and it was a nice enough bike. Fairly rare however and they dropped them from the lineup unfortunately.

Do consider that a lot of the bits you liked may be achievable by taking any bike and adding wide bars - maybe dropping the attitude a little.

I reckon stuff like a DR650 with supermoto wheels. A KLR600, not 650. TTR 600, which I would love to own. Big XRs. A Kwak KLX650 Wub Although those are all fairly old bikes, a Husky TE610? a 630?

I don't know, there's loads of them, even a Honda Dominator 650, but thats got some fairing if that's not your thing.

DR650 and KLR650 are both fairly heavy. I was presmining we were just talking ready-made SMs.
The 600 non-electric-boot versions are both a good chunk lighter (I've had a KLR650 and two DR600s - one of which was in SM trim.)

The Husky 610 comes in SM trim from the factory (SM610 rather than TE610, as it goes), but not many around. Service intervals the same as the KTM690 - 3000 miles. Nice bike and may be got for a decent price if you're lucky.

Yamaha WR250X.

Very similar to the DRZ400SM: slightly lighter, a bit less power and a 6 speed box instead of 5 speed. 6,000 mile service interval, with an oil change at 3,000 miles.

Came out in '08 but Yamaha had stopped selling them in the UK by '11 (I think). They were pretty expensive new, and you don't often see them. The WR250R was the off-road capable version.

I got one of the first two to arrive in the country, and still have it. It's not fast or powerful, but it is great fun.
