Po-po have called for backup, they are standing in formation...

https://rt.com/on-air/ukraine-kiev-police-protesters/

https://www.ustream.tv/channel/euromajdan/pop-out

https://www.ustream.tv/channel/ukrstream-%D0%97%D0%86-%D0%A1%D0%A6%D0%95%D0%9D%D0%98/pop-out

They are revolting because..... (Taken from a Ukrainian's post on reddit)

Yesterday the parliament majority (Party of Regions + Communist party) completely broke the regulations and voted for laws without discussion and by raising hands instead of using the system "Rada", and they claimed that there were always 235 hands in support of laws that they passed (on the photos, you can see that there are only near 120 hands "voting"). Counting hands took 3 seconds for every vote, 38 seconds were spent on each law. This procedure is enough to forget about any democracy in our country.

Laws make our country North Korea 2.0:

You can't gather more than 5 cars in a column (so, traffic jams are illegal now).
You can be judged without presence of you or even your lawyer.
You can be punished by 2 years of jail for "defamation" (what is defamation and what isn't - it is decided by our corrupted judges).
It is a crime to insult a judge or a policeman, also it's illegal to collect information about policemen and judges (it is because we protesters collected information about policemen that beat people and judges that made unlawful resolutions in order to punish them (in legal ways only)).
Blocking of entrance to house (3 years of jail), blocking administration buildings (5 years)
It is now illegal to use helmet, hard hat, mask or even scarf on your face when you gather together
Huge Internet restrictions, complete Internet censorship (materials can be banned even without court)
Extremism (every call to overthrow the current government (the main demand of our protests now), including call in the Internet, is extremism too) is punished very strictly now
Organizations and people that receive funding abroad should be called "foreign agents" and should pay shameful tax.
The law that was intended to free political prisoners (pushed by opposition) that were imprisoned during protests, was revised in the way that it also makes police forces non-responsible for their crimes
The immunity of deputy can be cancelled much easier than before (in order to target political opposition that backs our protest)

Near-complete list of new laws: https://ti-ukraine.org/news/4269.html

Also, there's a court resolution that bans rallies in the centre of Kyiv, despite the fact that our right for them is in Constitution (it seems that Constitution means absolutely nothing today, because lots of these laws are incompatible with it).

I enjoy an uprising as much as anyone and the actions of their parliament and the leadership of Viktor (Weird Al) Yanukovych are outrageous to say the least.

Sadly, I see this being very localised opposition. Ukraine is a country with a split personality, the minority EU-leaners outnumbered by the Ruskie-lovers.

The Government are in bed with Russia.

It's Russia pulling the strings here and so it's an unequal contest. Government control, backed by Russia will quell it, very quickly.

As you were everybody.

Their riots are much better than what was seen in the UK in 2001. The Ukrainian protesters/rioters are targeting government buildings as opposed to looting for free stuff and burning down their local neighbourhood.

Their government is now talking about calling for a state of emergency and the end of negotiations unless protesters leave the ministry of justice. The leader of the opposition has been offered (and declined) the position of prime minister.

What happens in the next few days is going to be interesting. If the protestors continue to not accept any concessions offered by the government then will their demands be accepted? An election can hardly be considered as being democratic if it happens because of rioters on the streets demanding it!

The more success the rioters have the greater chance there is of it spreading to other countries.

BBC News article

No mention of legislation, repeats that the riots are due to the president refusing to sign an EU trade agreement.
Is this how things started in November, then the legislation was brought in to shut people up?

The anti protest laws were passed a couple of weeks ago.

Clapping well played with the Xenophobia card there.
Now only if you could work in Nazi death camps, mentioning the Jews obviously and the odd 'quenelle' gesture or two you'd be onto a real winner*.

As in Syria, if you've got to kill your own people in order to stay in power...you're doing something wrong.

Some bloke on the telly was saying something along the lines of,

The dudes in power only have 1 hope now and thats to get out of the country and find a place where they can live in safety, but it's highly unlikely they will be able to get out of the country in safety in the first place.

They know they are screwed and will be going balls to wall soon.
