Apologies if this is elsewhere, did a search and couldnt find anything newer.

This, ladies and gentlemen is the revamped CB500 X https://www.motorcyclespecs.co.za/Gallery%20B/Honda%20CB500X%2013%20%201.jpg

It is 47bhp and has a top speed of 125mph. Clearly designed for the new A2 license catagory, and at less than £5'000 brand new I'd say its pretty good value for money.

MCN seem to have given it a very positive review CLICKY

I quite like the styling but wouldn't personally buy one brand new (or just yet) given the CBF125 disaster (which although mine hasn't rusted up too much, I still remain apprehensive towards new Honda bikes).

So BCF Whaddyathink?

They have an entire A2 range using the same 500cc engine. Personally I thought it would be a better idea to restrict a larger bike, as I'm viewing the A2 category as a temporary position.

However, they must have played with the gear ratios to give it a higher top speed if it claims 125mph. More fuel economy too as this would drop the revs at cruising speeds?

I like the wheels. That's about all I can offer in praise for it.

I don't see why someone would buy one of these new if it's going to be a) first bike b) a temporary stop gap and c) probably crashed.

I'd much rather buy a £800 CB500/GPZ500/GS500.

I like it, its Varadero-esque with a slightly more usable engine than the 125 offering.

BUT...

It is still just a dull 500 twin, I'd like a 400cc V twin, I've stated many times its probably got a little bit more low end poke and not as much top end... but would keep with the "Twin adventure bike thing" rather than this sleep inducing "sports bike engined" lol crossover.

In hindsight was that a good deal?

I've heard really mixed reviews about those bikes.

I think CB500 sounds better than NC700 according to any youtube videos.
We've got downsized 400 version only and we are envious of you.

If that proved to be reliable, I'd have one in a couple of years. If I could get one of them for less than 3 grand as a commuter it looks like it'd be a good commuter tbf.

It will never be anything other than that though.

The CB500X actually has a motorcycle engine it rather the Honda Jaz engine of the NC700. It is however pretty heavy at close to 200kg fully fuelled.

The X is meant to be the more adventure orientated machine, hence the grey engine colour (the CBR500R and F use a black painted engine).

I'd like to see the weight reduced to 175kg or whatever the A2 limit is for a 47bhp bike, and a spoked wheel option.

Anyone with an A2 licence is stuck with it for 2 years before they can then take there practical test to get an A licence. Since most people change there motorcycles every 12-18 months, I would hardly call it a stop gap.

What is the point of having a nose fairing/screen and then having such high bars. It should have had clip on's above the top yoke in a VFR style height and reach.

I don't think the bike is a total disaster, and I expect it will ride ok, so I'd probably have it instead of a car, but the real question is what is wrong with the CBR600F and what cannot that bike do well that this one can?

I still don't get your fascination with a 400cc V.
It'd likely weigh more and be more hassle. I can't believe the slightly different firing order would have any difference apart from the sound.

And it seems you can actually get a 400 as per kawashima's link - but again, same weight and so on I bet, maybe a little less power - maybe not even less peak powe rseeing that they've reduced the power on the 500cc twin already.

Steve - remember it's got quite a low seat height with the high bars, so the screen may still do a fair bit.
just adding a fly screen to my KTM690 made a very decent difference.

The CB500X is a 471cc twin not a 500cc twin.

I don't think it's a bad bike for the money but when you can get SV650s and the like for less you do wonder how many they will sell.

I like, but I wouldn't want at £5k, more like a CB500R for a grand

wonder where they're made? italy or spain perhaps

CB500R with drum brake from early 90's was made in japan, when they put the disc brake on the rear they were a lot more popular with buyers, but I spotted the brakes had changed to brembo, and sussed they were built in italy, I never felt the quality was as good, same thing with my 03 hornet compare to my 98 model

Good point, on second glance they look quite spindly compared to the bulk leaning on them...

Presuming you're not using it for serious off-road, I don't see the problem.
From what I can see they've just taken one of the other 500s and raised up a bit with a few styling differences to suit.
