Ok so i have a fresh install of windows 7 on my shitty old laptop and therefore a fresh install of chrome.

Ive had some odd things with chrome in the past such as taking an age to load a new tab but this time the tab loads quickly but when you want to go to a new url it will take 20-30 seconds to load the page.

Once the page is loaded the links in the page load as normal but if i type a different URL i again have to wait 20-30 seconds even if its the same tab.

Any ideas?

Chrome or all browsers?

Sounds like DNS lookups are taking an exceedingly long time.

Its not the laptop, it has been working fine with Vista, 7 and 8.1 before now.

But current spec is T2250 @1.73 ghz and 1 mighty GB of ram.

Just tried IE and it loaded other pages/tabs fine. So just Chrome.

There doesnt seem to be much in the settings that would alter URL loading times. Doesnt matter if its a URL thats been loaded before.

Chrome can be quite memory intensive so might just be laptop is not up to running 7 + chrome.

Its done so fine before. Along with Vista and 8/8.1 with multiple (5/6) tabs open.

In fact is was doing fine yesterday on the same set up Laughing

As said, the tabs open up quickly, links on webpages open up quickly, but the actual URL (google/bcf..anything) takes ages to load.

1gb of ram is no good for even xp with modern browsers let alone windows 7 with flash, java and antivirus running they just end up with huge pagefiles.

My own experience with chrome has been issues with memory not being released properly.

Windows 7 with aero on will be just as bad as any other o/s with 1gb ram these days, turning aero off/ switching to classic mode and reducing the amount of ram allocated to the igp in the bios will help but under classic theme you loose 2d v sync for videos etc.

As I said, 1gb with 7 is fine for day to day stuff. Would quite happily run 4/5 tabs in chrome.

It was just a glitch that was sorted by a restart.

Doesn't matter now anyway, laptop now has 4gb, well...3 gb use able.
