Why? Does he only have a year or so experience too?

I don't mean to be rude, but your dad will have had plenty of experience on the road, as much as most of us, more than me.

Your dad will also be less of an arsehole to you as well. You will eventually attract idiots.

Already have lol. But my dad is just one opinion someone might have something to say that my dad might not say that I could learn from. I watch motovlog videos and they'll say something that I didn't already know or do something which I'll consider doing whilst I ride in certain situations.

OK, I understand.

Overtaking: At 50 mph on a four stroke 125, I would have sat behind and comforted myself with the fact that my engine wasn't being stressed and I would be getting better MPG's. I did on my Varadero. And I got 78ish out of that, according to the speedo.

The cyclist, I would have gunned it away from the lights, to beat both car and bike then relaxed, and cruised keeping an eye on them. That way they are gone, I am out of the way. No the best way of dealing with it but, what I would do.

I think you did the right thing while filtering, if it isn't safe to drop in in front of a car, do so behind.

The cars were doing 50 I could do around 65 with the wind behind me. The bike doesn't seem to rev hard with the wind behind until I hit around 71. however if i'm going into the wind I'm sometimes screaming it in 4th depending on the strength of the wind. I don't overtake if I don't think I can get past quick enough. Just that one guy thought he'd put his foot down.

I couldn't really get in front or beside the car as it's not the safest place to do it as cars coming the other way would be very close so filtering there wasn't an option sadly.

No, the point I was making was that just because the bike can do that speed, doesn't mean it should. Maybe this is just my old man inside my head talking, but I wouldn't even bother considering to overtake.

My 250 will do about 80 flat out, and has enough torque to accelerate easily, regardless of gear. If I want to overtake a car, I need more room than a bigger bike but not loads of room. If the car is doing 50ish or more, I can live with staying behind it. I don't have to do 80mph everywhere.

I'm the opposite I like speed, 50 won't cut it, frustrates the shit out of me when I'm going into the wind and won't get past 50. I like to go as fast as the bike will go I don't like thrashing it though and have never red lined it. It pumps out 11bhp at 11,000 RPM I reckon I'll only reach 10,000 rpm if I'm "thrashing" it which I normally only do on 60 limit roads. I don't have a taco so wouldn't know for sure but I very rarely red line it for sure.

That said I don't know where my speed limit lies. I can only do 70 at the most and that's only when I'm going down hill with the wind behind me. But I may find that 90 is the fastest I'm comfortable doing or maybe I'd like to go somewhere like around the 150 mark but will be a while before I can get a bike that will do that kinda speed. I want the Bandit 600 after I pass my test but will only do 125-130. Whether it will be fast enough for me I'm not sure or I might just like it at around 80 - 90. Not to fast but not too slow.

are you 12? my 600cc tops out at 140mph apparently yet ive only hit 100+ a handful of times. not cos me or the bike isnt capable, but because i have no reason to. where do you plan on doing 125 - 150 mph?!

I've seen a bike doing 160 in a 60 zone. Not legal but what's the point of having a fast bike if you don't plan to use it's power?

There aren't that many places you can do that sort of speed. The motorway I feel you are highly likely to get done.

The reason I put up with 50 is because I wanted my licence more than anything, I didn't want to develop any bad habits before my test. Now it is just engrained into me. That and my knobblie tyres don't like it much faster than 50mph.

I think, you should learn to appreciate the machine for what it is. A workhorse designed to pass your test on. If you take the same attitude you have now with you to a Bandit 6, I give you two weeks.

My mate went from no experience to a ZX6R in a week, his head is still in a cage after 9 months, he was riding for 1 month on it. He just thought nothing was better than going fast. Another mate died at 55ish, and he had been riding for years, he was older than my dad. SO maybe not speed kills you, but it certainly helps.

It's not the speed that kills it's what you hit. I obviously wouldn't go fast if i though it was unsafe for the conditions. The road I saw the guy do 160 down was a wide straight road with little traffic.

One reason I like bikes is because of the speed. If it wasn't an issue to me then I'd stick with a 125 or drive a car. At least in a car I'd be dry and warm in shit weather. But I find bikes way to much fun to get a car just yet and you can get a bike with the performance of something like a BMW M5 for half the price. Even high end cars like a Audi R8 you get a bike that will at least match it's performance for half the cost.

In what way? If you seriously aren't bothered about going fast then might as well stick with low powered bikes or cars. As I said I probably won't feel comfortable doing that kinda speed but I haven't been past 120 on the back of a bike which was quite fun but have never ridden a bike faster than 70 so I wouldn't know what I'm comfortable at yet.

"Oh look another tedious post by that wanker again, god this guy is pretty tedious. Best keep scrolling, Oh no not another post does this guy ever shut the fuck up? *looks down the list of new posts some more* Nope obviously that wanker is pretty boring. Maybe I'll go look to see if anyone needs help with there bikes instead of the general chat topics maybe that wanker hasn't posted.

*looks at bike help topics* Thank god that wanker hasn't posted on here. phew!"

You have me really confused...

You think that you are riding wrong, and can get tips for safer riding, you then go on to say you want to cruise at 125mph.

mikesaa309, I've rated this boring, because all your topics have a theme.
They all ask the masses for assessment and evaluation of your riding, but when we are giving our years of full bike licence experience and knowledge to critique your riding, you condemn us and say that we are all wrong and you were right.

I don't understand you man. You ask for help, then nitpick the answers to try and make us look wrong.

In another thread, you said you travelled 40,000 miles on a bike, but never in that time had you experienced someone blocking your chosen lane before.

It's all wishy washy man.

Anyways, safe riding Thumbs Up
