looking at new bikes for when I pass my test hopefully within next 2 weeks or so.

Was looking at SV650's and GSF650's, but have recently been looking at ER6n's as well, as I'm learning on one and they seem nice bikes. However I've read they don't do too well with winter? This will be my only form of transport and will be used come rain or shine, as my Cbr125 is right now (and jesus, can you tell) Embarassed so just looking for some advice or reviews if anyone has/has had one Smile

Can't comment on the ER6n, but if I were you I'd have the GSF650 at the top of the list by a long way.

Well, none of them like salty wet roads - and all of them will benefit immensely from some sort of post-ride pampering after a dose of it. The SV's front plug is a bit exposed though, and for that fact alone, might not be the best all weather bike to leave hamamatsu.

As in "get this bike?"

Bandit + winter/road salt? Suzuki aren't too great with the finish on these heavy archaic pieces of machinery.

Honda Hornet's are too powerful to restrict, (I'll be on A2 License)

GSF650's I'd be going for a Fuel Injection version which is 08 or later which are a bit too expensive for my second bike.

This will only be my second bike after a CBR125 so while these bikes may be 'relatively slow' they're still going to seem quick to me.

I'm open to all bikes to be honest, I've not really got one above any other in terms of what I want yet. It's just a case of the right bike available at the right time, and i've read quite a lot of posts about people raving about ACF50. Does it need reapplying often? Where do i apply it? etc?

They're going to seem very quick for about a week/2 weeks and then you kind of get used to the speed of them.
I wouldn't consider them 'relatively slow' either. Top speed isn't all that but the acceleration on a bandit and SV is still pretty quick in my opinion.

You use the throttle to brain interface to control speed...

Funny, but 60MPH is the same no matter what you ride

Laughing

Spray or wipe (more cost effective) everywhere. Apart from brakes. No need to reapply, over winter. Only when you do the spring clean.

Mine gets a good dose pre winter and the only bits that get a wipe over are the lights and screen. The rest gets left alone.
All that crud that builds up keeps salt etc at bay.
Come spring a hour of so giving bike a good clean. See's it back to new.

I covered my new CBR125 in the stuff and have just let the dirt and crap build up - like the other guy said will wash it off once road salt goes away from Scotland, in August.

This. I sprayed ACF50 on mine at the end of biking season and it wont get a clean now until spring. Bikes pigging at the moment but will get a good clean down when winters over.

Another for ACF - just get whichever bike you like most and spend an afternoon pre-winter giving it a really thorough coat of ACF. It will look absolutely filthy within a week, but it will keep the corrosion away Thumbs Up

Another one is FS365 from scottoiler.

Cheaper, but you need to apply it more often. I think its good stuff.

What about the CB500?

If it's good enough to base the Thundersport 500 race series around and it's going to be restricted anyway, why not benifit from cheap insurance/lots of mpg/an engine proven to do over 100,000 miles in the hands of couriers?

That's what I'm riding all year. Acf 50 as everyone else says when riding thro the winter.
Think I'm getting about 55-60mpg.

That certainly makes ACF look really good, and it is. But I have had good results with FS365 as well.

I am going to try it myelf Thumbs Up

ACF50 Thumbs Up I put some on late Autumn but I did give the bike a wash after Christmas and did it again.

Check out a few bikes in the shops. I ended up with a bike I never would have picked from a list and I love it.

1. Apply ACF-50

and/or

2. Go to B&Q and get a 1.5 litre pump pressurised plant sprayer. Fill it with water and a dash of car shampoo. When you can be bothered, spend 2 minutes scooshing off the worst of the crud on the exposed areas of your bike.
