New to the forum, don't have a bike as yet but I've been a lover of them since I was a kid (I'm 24) just wanted to make some friends and chat bikes Smile

Pip pip.

Do you have a plan? The Get On scheme can sort you with a free taster to see if you enjoy it - and it's a good way to scope out a CBT school to see what the staff are like.

welcome! i'm only 21, and there's even 16/17 year olds on here so don't fret!

when are you thinking of sitting your CBT?

the CBF is as good a starting point as any 125 (that isn't chinese), but there's been some - and rightly so - flame recently on a brand new one bought by a member on here. my opinion on a 125 is usually to buy something used, as you probably won't stay on a 125 for long. i got a 125 for practicality of transport...and was soon lusting after something else!

if your heart is set on a CBF i'd consider maybe an older model, just something to get you out on the road and gain some experience before ditching the L's (instantly gaining more horsepower) Smile

Hi Bravo Smile nice to know I'm not the youngest! Lol not sure when I'll sit my CBT I'm looking for a new job (I currently work just down the road from my house) so if it involves transport then I want to save for it Smile I already have a car license (no car) so at least I know the rules of the road lol I'm more worried about the gears xD I like the look of the CBF because it just seems a good bike for a newbie, nice and light and looks simple hehe

lucky sod, i wish i didn't have car insurance to worry about but i need my car for work! maybe i'll move across the road from mine!

you're spot on, the CBF is all of that. most 125's are relatively easy to maintain once you know what you're doing, you will soon learn the basics of maintaining a bike, whether it's making sure the chain is adjusted correctly or doing brake pads - it all helps in saving money Laughing

now that you got me thinking, i do miss the simplicity of a 125!

Agreed! Just do it! I was 33, despite my dad having bikes when I was a kid and always wanting one.

Why's that then?

At 24, you can go straight on to do a taught course and then sit your DAS/A tests right away.

You'll have to do that anyway sooner or later to get off of a 125, so why not sooner?

125s are harder to ride, harder to see, and L plates get you treated with contempt, not care.

If I were doing it over again, I'd skip the tiddler.

I don't think I feel confident enough to go higher than a 125 yet to be honest lol just want something to get me around first and gain confidence

Careful. I heard if you say that 3 times infront of a mirror and you summon the Teflonman who will tell you time on a tiddler is rarely wasted. Shhh!

Do your CBT first, then decide how confident you are Thumbs Up

Even if you do your DAS its 5 days, then you can go potter around on a 125 for as long as you want, with lower insurance premiums, and without the bother of ever doing a test again Thumbs Up

Either way I have to do my CBT first anyway now that the rules have changed so think I'll be happy with my 125 for now Smile

Do the CBT and see about doing a DAS evaluation (some firms offer it to see if you're wasting your time or if they can screw you for extra money/days training).

I think you'll find that a bigger bike is actually easier to ride than the 125 (as stupid and possibly scary as that may sound).

I'd do the DAS and then decide if you need a commuter 125, commuter 400, commuter 500, weekend 600 etc.

Thumbs Up

I'm another advocate of the dodge 125's if you possibly can.

A bigger bike is easier to ride, more planted, better brakes and acceleration and IMO more forgiving.

Honestly, you will find a staid boring 500cc commuter so much more satisfying than any legal 125.

Haha it is nice working on my doorstep! Those are the reasons I like the CBF besides you can't go wrong with a Honda! Lol
