Anyone got any ideas for a bag that can be stashed under a bike seat? I use a record bag at the moment - one that's kind of thin enough to sort of scrunch up and bung on top of the tool roll. But although it fits it's a pain cos it's an only-just-cram-it-in arrangement.

Best would be a ruck sack fit - two shoulder straps - but made out of some really thin material. Like those parachute bags that were knocking about a few years ago and which packed down to about the size of neutron and could be stowed in a hollow tooth like a roll of microfiche containing directions to a buried supply of Nazi gold somewhere west of Latvia. Etc.

As I have an ER6, I found the maximum sized storage container I can use is a fag packet.

Those so-called parachute bags I mentioned do pack down to about that size though - but once in use can get a bottle of milk in, and maybe a loaf of bread.

My current record bag will do a loaf and a pint of milk no sweat. And that's the sort of size I'm after. The problem with the more easily stashed thin nylon kind of bag is that it's only got small handles, so isn't really any better than a bog standard supermarket carrier bag.

You can get sort of a canvas backpack that's just a piece of material with some rope that shuts a drawstring at the top? I don't know how small they compress to, but should just about fit.

I used to carry a helmet bag around. Just one of the ones you get with the helmet, with the drawstrings so you can carry it over your shoulder.

Takes up little to no space and can hold a basic trip to the shop worth of stuff.

various pound shops sell travel rucksacks that fold into themselves as a small wallet sized zipped up pouch,

the straps are weak however and the material is weak and thin

The draw string type arrangements are pretty good - might try those. Ideally though a travel rucksack that folds down into something small would be preferable. Cheers all.

Have a look on amazon or at outdoor shops. Vango, lifeventure, sea to summit, etc, they all do packable rucksacks that fold up to about wallet sized and are strong enough for carrying milk or wine home Smile

The lifeventure one went with me on a Scottish tour last summer and was pretty useful.

Under my seat I've got an Ikea holdall which folds into it's own pocket. I think it cost £6. Opens out into a decent sized bag with a shoulder strap and two handles.

I have an ancient white gore-tex shoulder / carry bag, which fits nicely in a pocket or under a bunjee on the saddle when empty. Looks horrible, the wife hates it, but it's done me well for 20 years. Bloody thing does the job, it has roughly the volume of a standard disposable plastic seagull-strangler Tesco shopping bag, and fifty times the strength.
Point is, any old screw-up-able bag will do.

Yes I know. The record bag I mentioned in my OP cost me a quid from Age Concern. But - being a record bag - it only goes over one shoulder. Go faster than 50 and it blows around like fuck. Hence why I want something that goes over *two* shoulders.
