HUSABERG TE 300

does anyone own a HUSABERG TE 300 ?

i'm wanting to get some sort of bike for road & off road use but not sure what .

does anyone know if the husaberg is a reliable bike ?

and would a 300 two stroke have plenty power or would a 450 or 500 four stroke be better ?

Know nothing of that bike, but not heard many "reliable" quotes on husaberg. I'd stick to my opinions that the KTM 300 EXC is ideal.

the ktm exc 500 did cross my mind to .

the 1st bike i thought about was a cr 500 until a few people said i'd never have my hand out of my pocket

ideally i want a bike that doesn't need constant money spent on it .

thanks paddy , i didn't realize the 300 exc was a 2 stroke , any idea how often the valves need checked on the 300 exc if its not getting raced ?

the honda dealer said the 450 crf needed the valves done every 15 hrs costing £100 , that means i'd have to fork out £100 every 2-4 weeks ! not to good .

That would be 15 hours competition wise I reckon though. I'd probably use till the motor got a little louder.

Do you have any experience offroad? Husabergs TE range are some of the purest enduro bikes you can own, Graham Jarvis has ridden them with great success in Extreme Enduro. KTM used to own Husaberg, but from what I gather they have now been sold to Husqvarna who are taking over/rebranding.

You wont go far wrong with a 2 stroke Husaberg, very well specced and reliable bikes. Some of their 4T range has questionable reliability, namely the 650's.

i've no experience offroad at all , i ride a busa & rocket . the busa has been off road a wee bit at slow speed but thats it .

i've wanted a off road bike for a while now .

i went to see about trading in my rocket for a 450 crf , the dealer offered me 7.5k for my mint 2012 rocket roadster , i'd rather keep it than let it go for that .

i'll prob just wait till i've got the cash then get something rather than sell the rocket , the busa is a bike i'll never sell

Just grab a cheap off roader, my KTM was ~£900. You'll find a few like that, even a TTR250 or something, give yourself some starting steps before paying outright for a newer one. Would be wasteful IMO.

Something between £500 and £800, give it a few months, if you don't like, sell it on. You'll not lose money.

The Husaberg TE300 is basically a KTM300 EXC.

Oh, there's a few bits and pieces different, but same basic engine and suspension. HOWEVER, suspect the big thing ....
Husaberg has ... Blue Plastics, KTM has Orange.

Paddy has found while I always recommend the 250/300 over the 200 for new riders - the bigger bikes are actually a lot more docile and easy to ride.

For on road, the 4 strokes do have some advantages.
The big advantage the 4 strokes have off road is engine braking - going down a hill you can knock it down a gear and don't have to modulate the rear brake (which can be awkward while keeping your weight back).
The 2 strokes advantages are less maintenance, lighter and less rotating mass too means they tend to be flickable. The enduro 2 strokes tend to work a bit better on motorcross tracks too. Even compared to a 500 4 stroke, the 300 2 stroke I'd say generally has a flatter delivery with more low end power.

KTM still own Husaberg.
While Husky seems to be a bit of a hot potato at the moment and most of their (4 stroke) bikes are basically BMWs, though they're no longer owned by them.

In 2014 Husaberg will be celebrating not only it's 25th anniversary but it will be the last year of the brand. In Jan. of 2013 Stefan Pierer, the current CEO of KTM Sportmotorcycle AG and his company Pierer Industries AG purchased Husqvarna AG from BMW. As of October 2013 the two companies combined both Husaberg and Husqvarna to form the new company Husqvarna Sportmotorcycle GmbH. They will be using Husaberg's technology while keeping the more iconic brand name of Husqvarna. The new bikes will be using the original colors of Husqvarna blue, yellow and white

That was off Wiki It looks like the new 'Husabergs' are being rebranded as Husqvarna but yeah KTM still technically own it all! I must say they look fantastic though -

The 4 stroke engine was always the diffentiating factor with the Husabergs.
Initially because they power with hand-grenade reliability AND went up to 650cc in competition-light guise.

Yep - they had to do SOMETHING to differentiate them and KTM didn't want to try the radical stuff themselves.

I think it was a mixture of weight centralisation and better clearance at the front.

Aren't their funky lay down cylinder 4stroke motor's all their own work?

I don't think they are Rotax/BMW derived or KTM derived either, although older Husaberg and KTM big motors did look visually similar I think.

It looks more like a 4stroke version of the OSSA motor than anything else!

This threads a real eye opener .Now i'll certainly consider a "Hus" if I ever gather enough wonga for a stroker.

Always admired the somewhat quirky lay down setup of that 4stroke Berg motor. But had no idea ktm were owners of the Hus's.

Just looking at it now I notice the oil filter cover looks suprisingly familiar.
