Hi, I've been trying to get a bike for a REALLY long time, but before I get a bike... I need a helmet that fits. I've been to SOOOOOOOO MANY different bike shops around Birmingham and Leicester. The closest fitting helmet seems to be the Shoei GT Air in size XS, but with that helmet, there is still a big gap in front of my forehead and I'm able to tilt is forwards and backwards more than I should be able to....
I've tried the XXS size of the Shoei XR-1100 and that was a more loose fit than the GT air. Didn't want to spend more than £600 on a helmet. After I've tried all of the helmets in the shops, the staff just tell me there's nothing they have that will fit me and direct me elsewhere. REALLY ANNOYING.

Is there anyone that can help me with what I can do about finding a helmet? Anyone else been in this situation?

Doing my CBT again in 2 days and turning 24 this year so will be taking my direct access then (the one thing I am looking forward to in the year)

Go to lidl when they have their helmets in, if it doesn't quite fit get a wooly hat to go with it.

45quid including wooly hat.

Win.

If an xxs doesn't fit, try a children's helmets for a better fit. I don't mean to sound patronising but u may find it fits better than an adult helmet.

Can't you just get the gt air one and put extra padding in around the forehead area? I'm sure you can get extra padding off eBay etc.

Can you measure your head for us?

Sounds like an odd request but if we know how fat (or not fat) your head is, we might be able to advise better.

^^^ Laughing

Seriously though. How small is your head. Shocked

A large lid usually fits me quite snug and I wouldn't say my head is particularly big by any means.

Are you a ladyfolk?

My girlfriend had the same issue. We found two that fit in the end, one was a kids helmet, maybe a shark from memory. Then we found an adults HJC that fit her nicely.

So, try kids helmets and have a look at HJC.

I had the same problem, I couldn't find anything to fit me properly. I ended up walking into Hein Gericke a few years back and trying loads on until I found something that fitted me perfectly. There was just one helmet in the place that fitted, which was an Arai Viper GT.

I am now looking to replace that, and have found the same problem again. I can't find anything to fit! And unfortunately, the likes of Hein Gericke and Infinity have disappeared from my area, so I'm left with the franchised dealers who have a handful of helmets each.

The best recommendation I can give is to head for a bike accessories store that stocks plenty of different brands and ranges, and just try everything.

If your budget is stretching to Shoei then also have a look at Arai. They have a number of different shell shapes and sizes to suit different people, and if you go to a proper dealer they can change the padding to try and get a better fit for you. Shoei dealers can do likewise. (Whether they do or not is another question, the Arai and Shoei dealers I've visited over the last few days have had no interest in trying to help me get something to fit).

Go to the MCN show at the London ExcelArena next weekend.

There's thousands of helmets (and everything else) for sale, great advice and you'll have a great day sitting on the bikes and wish listing!!!!
