EDIT - Have bought a Drift HD for 99 quid, will update with results once its mounted and running Thumbs Up

Just wondering if anyone on here has helmet mounted cameras before? Pics would be helpful Praying

I've seen adhesive mentioned on a few posts here and elsewhere on the net but nothing particularly specific about how and what to mount it with Thinking

Too worried to have a trial go at it in case it ends up blowing off and smashing into pieces after a few miles Shifty

I mounted my Go-pro on my lid with the supplied mounts and it was good. If you end up doing 3 figures there will be some pressure on your head from the wind blast.
The only criticism I have is the output file is strange as due to the angle from the lid down to the ground I found the lean angles don't come across too well. At a couple of points I was hanging off and scraping my slider and it looked f'all on the vid. Strange!

I don't feel nothing with the Drift HD mounted on the top of my helmet... the wind forces my body back not my helmet Rolling Eyes

Will get a picture put up soon-ish..

Mounts supplied are strong enough to hold the camera on quite firmly even at speed, I quite often pick the helmet up by the camera that's how sturdy it is Very Happy

I bet you keep your head upright and not at the same angle as the bike.

https://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/230965626687?nav=SEARCH&sbk=1 Was thinking of getting a cheaper one so my main worry was whether any of the mounts supplied for bar attachment etc would even be suitable for helmet mounting.

Or maybe its possible to bodge something with a bracket or whatever Thinking? I dont mind how much of an ugly mess it makes of the helmet, I just dont want the cam to kamikaze into the road Laughing

one of the mounts supplied looks ok for bike helmets just a bit flat but get some 3M Double Sided foam tape stuff that gives it some cushion for a rounded surface, that's what the Drift comes supplied with (already on the mounting plates when supplied though)

Thats pretty much what im aiming for mark Thumbs Up

Either top or sidemounting. Could the drift mounts be used with other brands of a similar shape and size securely do you reckon?

I'm sure they are universal but you'd have to check the screw thread size, let me get a few more pictures Thumbs Up

I found mine very noticeable when turning my head. After all, it will be creating a significant amount of turbulence if you're going quickly.

May be just me, numb to the sensation being used to it, I don't know... cus I'm not exactly hanging around when there is an open road Smile

I have a Drift HD mounted as well, except to the side of the helmet. I'm sure the adhesive is good but I've added a DIY failsafe which is an old camera wrist cord attached through a hole in the camera clip and looped through the helmet strap. I doubt I'll need it but I'd hate to have £250 worth of camera smashed to a million pieces Embarassed

Also the screw thread in the clip is a standard 1/4 inch thread used in all types of cameras. I have a universal camera sucker mount for car use and a gorilla pod, both of which the Drift camera fit to perfectly. Ergo the drift Universal Clip and sticky mount can be used with all types of cameras I would imagine.

Hope this helps.

I've got one.

If you make sure your helmet is warm (snigger) and you warm the adhesive pad with a hair dryer, you'll be fine.

Give your lid a wipe with an alcohol wipe, dry it and stick away.

The contour ones (I've got a contour camera) are supposed to cure for 24 hours in a warm room as well.

Cheers for the pics n tips Thumbs Up

I was originally wanting a contour roam but they all seemed to be around the 150 mark minimum. Theres a few refurbed drifts on ebay around 100 though so I might stretch the budget and grab one of them, i'm sure the budget ones are going to have a few negatives for them to be that cheap, perhaps best to avoid Rolling Eyes

Great idea with the safety-cord ben, much less of an issue if I have a bit of DIY go at fitting a mount now with that in mind, cheers Karma

The ROAM is a good camera - it's worth a punt. You can get them for less than that now as the ROAM2 is out, and you can put the ROAM2 firmware on the ROAM Wink You don't get the same quality (it's a bit shitter) but you won't notice really.

Bullet camera from Dog Cam Sports for me...
Mounted on the right hand side of my lid, and at a slight upward angle so that it's level when im riding....
Used the adhesive pads with the mount supplied, and used it at speed as well as in all weathers. Never had any problem with it. Thumbs Up

Thats very tempting - decent price and really good size.

Battery lifes a little on the low side is my only worry. Do you know if its an intergrated battery or a removeable one that could be used along with a spare for extra filming between charges?

How've you found the video and sound quality.

Just get a Drift, for biking they really are about the best, Go Pro might have the edge in image quality but you look like a teletubby with the boxy thing stuck out - and quite a bit more expensive.

At least 2 hours recording and you can run it until your card fills up from a USB plug - which is handy anyway.
It's easy to fit an external mic which will improve the sound immensely even if you don't want to talk.

That's an SJ1000 in its waterproof case and the smallest slot-in adaptor just cable tied through the helmet vents. Totally secure and the position and orientation is ideal.

It comes with eleventy other mounting options, has a 2 hour battery life (and spare batteries can be had for £5.50 delivered, as can a separate charger) and decent video quality.

No microphone in and a bit of a funny shape would be the only negatives, that and the usual concerns about no-name quality control and longevity.

The problem with mounting it on your helmet is that the only sound you're going to get is wind noise which is near impossible to remove in post processing.

How do you find wind is with it placed there Roger? I ride visor up in summer quite a bit, just thinking if its likely to give me a face-full of deflected wind in that position. Two of my helmets have identical vents that would make it ideal to mount to, and probably a damn sight easier than sticking on pads and mounts Thinking quite tempting

Not too fussed about the sound really c-m. A bit of engine noise would be nice to mull over I guess, but otherwise its mainly just for visuals when travelling places/insurance claims if and when they happen Gagged

I have a chillitech camera stuck to the side of my helmet. velcro pad on helmet then velcro pad with elastic fabric that holds the cam. No problem at speed. Perfectly secure but I do put a lanyard from the cam around the helmets chin strap but its not really necessary. I would put up a pic but cant remember how. I also have a small go pro style cam on the bars secured using a quick release pad off an old tripod.

Wow the SJ4000 is a great little cam.

I've got the same Drift HD setup as above. I have a mic sitting in my helmet to hopefully get some engine sounds but wind noise is pretty much all I can hear past 50mph.

I've been looking at one of these

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/301046228602?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649

Looks much like a gopro, but comes with all the stuff the gopro doesn't. Video quality is good enough in the cold and dark attached to the cranes at work, and they survive pretty well if they get hit by storage totes at speed Whistle

I just need to persuade her indoors that I need one......
