I would quite like an older XJ6 as my next bike. Would just like the simplicity of an air cooled engine. And I would like an IL4.

That one I have linked to looks pretty much brand new. £1,500 is definitely more than you would normally pay for an XJ6. If I was buying one I would be looking around the £1,000 (asking price, try to haggle down after) mark if it was low mileage and good condition.

There nothing special but fast enough for everyday use.reliable yes. Fun in a quirky sort of way goodish on fuel about 140mls till reserve can pull 115 on a private road of course.parts are everywhere.i have given mine abuse for nearly 2 yrs now and it just asks for more.commonly known as the vauxhall Astra diesel of the bike world.would I buy another one yes.but that one seems a little overpriced mines a 1997 and I paid £700. I would offer £1000 and go from there

decent all round workhorse, will get you from a to b with no frills and reliably, regularly get around 60mpg from mine, has enough power to do decent overtakes too. A grand is too much, I paid £700 for one in decent condition with engine bars.

EDIT: Jesus they're asking £1500? you could get a decent xj900 for that money..

Rear tyre looks squared off, I can't tell how much tread is left on them. The sprockets and chain could be shagged. "will come with a full years mot" means it doesn't have one, and SORNed might mean "To be honest mate, I'd really rather not bother mate, but it'll sail through mate, no worries mate, throw in me helmet mate."

The seller might get that much for it, but it wouldn't be from me. Just for an example, eBay has dozens of clean CBR600Fs at that price, many of them with not many more miles.

While it appears to be very clean, not a chance would I pay £1500 for an XJ600N as there is much better available for the money.

For these bikes, you're definitely better off spending less money if you're going for an XJ600N. I'd personally be looking at a budget of £1k maximum if I was going for one.

Like rodgerborg says, get something else with the money if you've got £1500 to spend.

So this would be a good first bike / commuter I do like them, Im not keen on valve shims but have been reading on an SV forum that they can go quite a while before they need changing is it the same for the divvy?.

They're solid enough bikes, good workhorse, but £1500 is Fazer money.

They're not the quietest engine in the world.

Thanks all, just looking for a reliable commuter as first big bike that will rack up miles all year round, fast is not an issue, maybe a summer bike later.
I think kittykat racked up big mileage on hers. Under a grand is better.

Divvies seem to be indestructable, engine wise. All have clutch rattle, unless the oil drive peg conversion has been done. Early version (single disc) calipers need a bit of care, esp. front, disc warp otherwise.

Suspension a bit on the soft side, Hagon front and back sorts this. OE exhaust is laughable, SS downpipes to mild steel collectors. The collectors rot big time. If all this is sorted before you pay £1G or less, you're sorted. If you have to spend out on them, you will never get it back.
Headlamp carp on S model. Quite fun for a commuter, apart from flat engine character. Such a shame it seems impossible to get another 20 hp out of them. Loads of info on diversion owners club and xjriders.com
