Greenlaning!

With no real plan other than to head out in the direction of the North Downs and look for byways.

First byway turned out to be a bit naff - but was a good starter.

Then headed off through a village, and found another byway on the other side that went round the outside of a farmers field.

Back onto tarmac again, saw a few guys with quads heading onto a farm - another massive byway sign! Excellent. This was proppery muddy & I kept getting stuck.

Then the hill got a bit steep, I cooked my clutch & ended up pushing the bike a few miles to the nearest pub for recovery. D'oh.

Evidently we can add coolant to that list of stuff clutches shouldn't be soaked in!

Had a good time, ordered one of those carbon fiber clutch kits, so will be back at it next weekend hopefully

Erm... I've probably spent £18 on fuel since getting the KTM back from the shop. I've covered about 50 miles, most of it max revs. It still has a mostly full tank, so probably looking 50 miles to £10.

But nowhere near as fun as a two stroke bike.

Must get MOT sorted for more laning fun.

Might have consumed four litres of fuel during 20-30 mins of road riding. That said, I don't currently have 5th gear for some reason and don't have the power to go straight from 4th to 6th.

As I have a 7.5ltr tank with no reserve, this could be an issue

Yeh i lose that game I did get 50 odd road miles though to £10. Done around 300 miles on the 300 (excuse the pun) so far and zero problems apart from adjusting idle carb took 10 minutes to take off and clean, and chain took 2 minutes to adjust tension.. Well impressed

We will have to arrange a big BCF green lane meet thing one weekend


Regarding range/ fill up problems, I just carry a 1litre bottle of 2 stroke and chuck 250ml of it in with each fill up (Castrol has 250ml marker points on bottle). When I run out of fuel I flip reserve on and pin it to the nearest station hoping it doesn't stall No reserve wouldn't work with this brilliant strategy though
