You can sometimes smell smokers in a car ahead so maybe.

Not if their sense of smell is as bad as their eyesight.

The only thing they're aware of is that they're 2 seconds back from where they deserve to be.

A few times in 30's and 40's, I've had people so far up my arse that I've checked for other traffic and if there isn't any, just pulled over and let them through........trouble is, it doesn't feel like the rational actions of a calm thought process (live & let live, if they are in a hurry let me etc). Instead, this feels like what it is, a removal of all man points (what few there were) and the actions of a cowardly wuss. However once in a NSL they are quickly caught up with and dispatched with a suitably humiliating speed differential.

Are pettiness points equal in weight to man points?

A massive backfire normally does the trick, with a quick glance over my shoulder at the dick.

I don't think most are aware they're doing it.

I sometimes hold a palm out to them if they're kicking the arse out of it and there's nowhere for me to go. 9 times out of 10 they pull back.

Unless you cut about with L plates on in which case you deserve to be tailgated because you're sub human scum clogging up my road.

My wife tailgates and I think she's probably typical of the species. We mostly think of them as aggressive drivers, trying to bully us out of the way, and I'm sure there are a few of those. But my wife is the opposite of aggressive. She tailgates because she's distracted and thinking of the next 47 items on her to-do list. If I'm with her, I mention it (gently) and she backs off, but otherwise she will be completely unaware she's doing it.

She's never shunted anyone, yet. That's probably true of pretty much all tailgaters. If you get into an accident because of a lack of stopping distance, you're unlikely to make the same mistake twice. However, if you ride too close all the time and nothing happens, it becomes habit.

FTFY. A little bit worrying though.

My sister in law does it because she's a really shit driver and has a "get out of my way" attitude, usually with her two kids in the car.

Well, I never said it was OK. Nor did I say she isn't a bad driver. It isn't and she is (or not a good one, anyway).

My wife has been driving for more than 30 years and has never had an at-fault accident (she's been hit, but never hit anyone). I think that's luck, more than anything. I'm just saying that this explains why she keeps driving too close. She hasn't learned the consequences.

Tail-gaters are my no 1 pet hate and (I'm sad to say) they are the just about the only element of society that bring out the stereotypical thug biker in me.

My sentiments entirely. If you drive up my ass, you might as well be pointing a loaded gun at my head - lost my rag more than once at drivers who do this. Grrrrr!

I did this on my old zxr once...

notice how it shot the internals of my exhaust out onto the road behind me.. It got run over before I got a chance to fetch it.

Bah. Only thing worse than a tail gaiter is a tail gaiter with badly fitted HID's. Thumbs Down

Yes. Same applies after you pull over for a tail gaiter and then filter past them at the next set of lights Thumbs Up

If someone wants to get past I just let them. Hell, I let lots of bikers pass me when I'm on the CB1300. Back in the day, I was a hotheaded, crazy, rugby-playing, 'death-before-dishonour,' fight-you-to-the-death, pr!ck. These days, I'm relaxed, completely chilled and mostly ride without an ego. Mostly.

E.g. had a white Panamera flashing his lights and driving up my chuff on the N Circ last week (I was on a CBR250RRRRRRRRR, not my usual CB1300). I let him go, pulled back out into traffic and then he kindly moved over to let me filter past as the traffic ground to a complete halt. Knowing the traffic on the N Circ, he's probably still there...

They should be able to smell your farts. If they can't, then you need to change what you're eating. I find lots of Silver Red Bull + lots of Brothers Festival Strength Pear Cider + plenty of Jalapeno peppers is a recipe for farts you can be proud of. Mr. Green

Oh and if you're being tailgated, why are you going so slowly?
