PostPosted: 08:51 - 12 Feb 2014    Post subject: gsf600 bandit full strip and rebuild Reply with quote

Hi all im new to both this forum and motorbiking in general.
I have bought myself a suzuki bandit 600n as it was going cheap, and I have decided to fully strip down and rebuild it before I start using it. Just have a few queations before it all goes back together.

Has anyone got any pictures of decent colour schemes? I have already started rubbing the paint down off the frame in preperation for powder coating but can't decide on a colour scheme. Im looking for something nice and unusual but not tacky looking.

Its all fully stripped to a bare frame and mostly rubbed down. Just need to decide this before I take it to be done.

Second question where is best to look for some bargain parts i.e service kits and replacement cables etc.

I tried uploading a progress picture but it doesnt seem to work from my phone so will upload a complete progress picture post when it is rebuilt

I apologise for my first post being such a long 1 lol
All help much appreciated. Regards George

Colour scheme is a personal thing. You can't go wrong with a powder coated black frame, it's easy to go wrong with a coloured frame.

You can find cheap cables and such on ebay, but they can be really shit. It is worth pricing up genuine cables, you may be pleasantly surprised. If a genuine cable is only 30% cheaper than a pattern one, get the genuine one.

I've seen a bandit 600 mk1 with a grey frame, black plastics and tank that i thought looked nice, it had other chromey bits as well that completed the look though.

Hi, currently giving an unloved 1999 mk1 600 a much needed lift. Swing arm was brush painted black along with the footrests etc and everything covered in a thick layer of grease and crud. Swing arm has gone for a fresh coat of silver powder (£40) and new bearings.

Try Robinsons foundry as the have the Bandit as bike of the month. Got 1 sleeve and 4 bearings for the arm for £65 inc post instead of £130 also in the coupon code box type in TLZO and get a further 10% (register on TL Zone forum to keep things right tho).

I like a black frame with silver bodywork. Plain and simple. Otherwise how about white and blue in a Suzuki design? Something like the Gixer paintwork.

That does look quite nice. Shall bear it in mind. I was considering black frame and plastics and a light gold frame. Or black frame and white tank and plastics. Too many choices not enough money to try them all haha

All these pic's i've got are off the bandit forum, it may be worth joining there as well and asking if anyone has pictures of the colour schemes that your interested in so u can actually see what it looks like on the bike.

You also get discounts from places if your part of the bandit forum, for example I bought a decent service kit for my bandit for £64 instead of £72 off CJ Acccesories, 25% discount on hell braided lines, fuel exhausts 10% off, bandit mania 10% off, the list goes on….

Any pictures of your bike as it currently stands btw?

Az is right, get on to the Banditforum.co.uk and introduce yourself. Loads of advice on there and it's quite specific unlike here which is far more wide ranging.

I only used the TL Zone discount code for Robinsons as I was doing an online order and needed a checkout code and not a refund of the 10%.

Just register with photo bucket and upload your pics to there. That way you can just link to them instead of uploading on every web site. You post a link to the pic and it displays on the sites.

Yeah, I had the same problem and someone helped me off BCF and PM'd a mod on the bandit forum asking them to activate my account. If you like, I can PM a mod on the bandit forum asking them to activate your account Thumbs Up

As for the picture, i've always uploaded pictures onto my photo bucket account and then simply copied and pasted the image link or you can copy the image address (when u right click an image on a web page) and paste it into a text box on BCF, highlight the the image address while it's in the text box, click 'Img' from the buttons at the top of the text box.

its my first "proper" bike after riding a CG125, i havent ridden it yet, the furthest its moved under its own power is about 3ft!!

all the welds on the frame are crusty, so i think im going to have to get it powder coated too

im thinking orange frame with black tank etc....

just been quoted between £80 - £100 for the frame & swing arm and £40 per wheel to be blasted an powdercoated

Looks good. Seems to be more expensive for powdercoating up my way. £100 for the frame and an extra £30 for the swing arm lol. Well I know 2 people that have them and say they are brilliant to ride. And 1 that says it was terrible so sold it and got a honda hornet. Time will tell I guess lol
