Thought I'd take a little detour on the way to work and got pulled Embarassed

45ish in a 30 zone. As I admitted it he was happy with a lecture and off we went. Been driving a car 15 years and probably would've been doing the same speed, only been pulled once. Riding a bike 6 months and theyre keen already Laughing

In not-so-sunny maidenhead. Was probably at the end of his shift and mightve thought I was a yoof on a nicked bike making a run for it as I didn't see him at a roundabout Laughing

Got pulled over a while ago for 'allegedly' getting my knee down on a roundabout (unlikely sir) and making 'too much' progress on my old 636. I think once he saw how old I was (he felt sorry for me??) and he had no video footage of 'the incident' he just gave a bit of a lecture.
More often than not there is an element of attitude test, unless realy being silly.

When I got pulled for doing 30 in a 30 on my 125 - "I had to do 50 to catch you!" - my attitude was to laugh out loud until Dibble got bored giving The Lecture and fucked off.

Smart? Oh, no, no, very daft.

Proud of it? Absolutely. I'd cheerfully pay 3 points and £100 for that memory. In the event, I got it for nothing.

Some years back I got pulled for doing 39 in a 40. Apparently only someone who had been drink driving would have obeyed the speed limit on a straight bit of road in the wee small hours. Rolling Eyes It had nothing to do with the front 4 feet of a jam sandwich sticking out where I could see it, all lit up by the lamp post he had helpfully parked under. Rolling Eyes

A 125 is hardly going to be breaking any land speed records is it Laughing

Tbh police have always been alright with me, although i'm not so stupid now so i haven't been pulled in ages.

I've been pulled carrying a pillion while on L plates from Redditch to Birmingham (almost at my destination too) and they let me off and gave my passenger a lift home.

Doing 50-60ish past a police officer waiting to come out of a side/residential road joining onto the long empty road I was speeding down (30 limit), they just asked me to slow down, confirmed my details and left. No lecture or lies about fireblades.

I've always been completely honest and respectful when pulled and i've always walked away thinking thank fuck aha

My most amusing tale of police woe is

Back in about 1994 as a young African american man of some Notable success I was driving down a freeway when I noticed the police in my rear view mirror. I was presented with 2 options, I put my foot down and enter into a highway persuit or pull over. Thinking that I had enough money to fight the case I duefully pulled over. The policeman pulled in behind me and walked up to my window and asked me "son do you know what Im stopping you for" I replied "because I'm young and I'm black and my hats real low? Do I look like a mind reader sir, I don't know
Am I under arrest or should I guess some more?" It was at this point that he informed me that I was driving at 55 in a 54...he then proceeded to ask to see my licence. Had the cheek to insinuate I was potentially carrying a weapon and furthermore wanted to look around my car. I informed him the car was locked up and on a routine traffic stop he would need a warrant to search my car. He thought I was just being clever and asked me if I was a lawyer or something but really it was more that I was not passed the bar but knew enough about the law to know he was not going to illegally search my car. It was at this point he threatened to call in the search dogs.

I had 98 other problems that day.

Out of interest, what offence are you actually committing by sticking a knee down when cornering? (assuming the bike is within the speed limit of course)

I've heard stories of people being pulled for it, but I'm never to sure why!

Depending on the circumstances, driving without out due care and attention or dangerous driving I would think. Could probably section 59 you if just going round and round a roundabout as well.

I have no idea how they could claim a lack of due care or dangerous riding from it though! You're in control of the vehicle, observing the speed limit, the rear wheel isn't spinning and the front wheel is on the ground. Also, you can corner lower NOT putting a knee down.

Has anyone ever actually received points or a fine for this?

Depends on the circumstances as I said above. A quick kneedown on a roundabout or around a clear sighted bend they probably won't worry about. If you're just going round and round a roundabout then they probably will.

TLDR - Don't take the piss and you'll be left alone, like most of riding really.

It's nice to see there are still some coppers out there who realise that sometimes it's more appropriate to give the lecture rather than an instant "you're nicked sonny" with it's attendant points/insurance hike etc. And there aren't any riders stupid enough to give it the back chat when they get pulled anyway, are there Rolling Eyes

Two examples come to mind. Pulled for speeding, 2 coppers on foot, bald rear tyre - "feel that tyre, warm isn't it; that's how your tyre gets worn like that" !! Laughing No back chat, took the lecture, on your way sonny.

130mph on a motorway, wondering why the bike isn't pulling well (750 turbo, low position of air filter meant it caught a lot of crap and needed regular cleaning was the problem) - mate on GPZ1100 just ahead, sudden flash of his brake lights and he disappears behind me; well he was always messing about so ignored it - and flew past a cop car! Did a runner for the next exit, but he caught me on the slip road.
I pull over, he pulls over, mate pulls over behind cop car. The copper went to my mate first: "10 out of 10 for slowing when you saw me, but DON'T YOU EVER CHASE A POLICE CAR AGAIN!!" Mate had done just this when the copper had come tearing after me Laughing
Again, no back chat, all suitably humble and apologetic, LONG, passionate lecture and - on your way sonny! Shocked
(Flashing my Air Force I.D. probably helped a bit - that seemed to defuse a few such situations somehow - go figure).

Exactly why I found it so funny. The copper clearly just saw a bike up the road, decided to have a chase, and then started his L-plate-lecture pretty much before he was out of his panda. Rolling Eyes

Got pulled over for going too slow once, too Shocked

Gants Hill roundabout on my little 50, took the Cranbrook Road turn off, copper waves me in by the bus stop.

"Going a bit slow on that roundabout weren't you?"
To which I just gestured at the bike and then looked at him with raised eyebrows - "yeah, see what you mean, off you go" Laughing
