hi I recently purchased a speedfight 100cc which has been tuned for racing, it's a nice tidy pick up with incredible handling and acceleration unfortunately it's drinking fuel, is there anything I can do to stop this? I was told there is a performance adjustment screw on the carb, but I don't know which way to turn it.. the engines doesn't change sound when I move it, can you please help

The downside of 'tuning for racing' is the consumption will likely suffer. If you want more mpg the easiest (possibly the only) way Is to return it to stock. Reliability would be improved too at a guess. A race tuned engine is not designed to cover large milages - they need regular servicing and maintenance.
Without seeing the needle you're fiddling with its tricky to make a guess, but it could be the idle (adjusts the speed of tickover) or a mixture adjustment. Too lean would destroy the engine quicker than before as it runs too hot.
In summary, you want the power, you'll have to pay!

Are you sure it's been tuned FOR racing? Or did the owner tell you it's "race tuned". 99% of the time with bikes that appeal to chavs the two are very different things.

Do you have a list of the modifications?

There is not a 'performance screw'; it's probably idle or mixture, as mentioned.

performance comes not just from the engine but from the fuel - to go faster you need to burn more of it.

the engine is just a mechanism to convert the energy in the fuel into motion.

you could also put less fuel into the engine by going easier on the gas - but this means you ll be going slower too.

thats why the 49cc moped that can do 120mpg only hit low top speeds.

go faster - you ll need to burn more fuel. go slower - you ll not need to burn so much. easy really.

Lets see some pics then! Smile

I have gone on like a broken record about how much I spent on a 100cc Peugeot motor, and what power I achieved from it £££'s later.

I agree with G, as there are no 100cc 2stroke race scooter class's and no proper race engine kits or components available for any of the 100cc air cooled half hearted motors.

if I remember back over 10years, I don't think the mpg changed massively when I tuned mine, but I was still running a std 100cc bore, not a 120cc big bore kit.
