For the price it is tempting but then it is Chinese but someone must be buying them. I wouldn't buy any of their 125 machines but I guess who is going to gamble and get a bigger Chinese machine?

450cc engine but only 29 horses Laughing

cheap engine made to 125cc cg125 quality levels is my guess. Considering chinese 125's start at £700 I believe anything more than 3x increase in price is a joke and noone will buy them.

The CG engine is a well designed engine and does what it does well, low maintenance and just goes on with minimal care really, you don't buy one to be thrilled!

Good point about HP, I am pretty sure wr450 is something like 45hp without mods so yeah a big difference. Probably a really old engine design.

Honda xr400 makes around 30 HP thinking about it so for a new liquid cooled bike its a terrible figure.

How are they tempting for £4000? Get a used bike from a decent manufacturer. Here is a honda CRF450 for £2700 and I bet there are better deals out there too... It's half the price and twice the bike.

The place I did my CBT is a WK dealer and they have a few in... think the 650i is a nice looking bike. No idea if they're any good though.

But would you really pay £4200 for a "WK" 650i when you can have an MT-07 for £5200 or a real ER6 for £5400 now (and less if you go for a pre-registered one).

Before you decide, work out how much each of them will cost to own.

It's cheap, but it's not cheap enough, or good enough.

A CRF250M makes less power and weighs more, with similar listed service intervals I suspect.

Yet some people seem to think the new CRFs are pretty amazing for a reason I don't really understand.

If the engine is intended to have road service intervals, sounds very reasonable.

Of course, we're seen plenty of reason to question the other big WK bikes, so no way I'd be wanting to pay over £750 for one, say.

True, but then CRF and WR's are much more maintenance heavy so you have that cost to consider. I know the duke 390 is only 4500 so if you bought new then the KTM is much more appealing. I think when the WK supermoto goes for next to nothing second hand though and if they turn out to be okay then they could be good cheap fun.

WK650's being raced as supertwins now.... dunno if theyre any good though as ive yet to see any up close.

Ducatis were often raced in such classes.

When I was racing, at club level they pretty much always blew up or had serious problems.

Ironically they "just weren't made for racing" - and this was, of course, bikes that often were made in their top versions to win international championships!

29hp is about right for a single cylinder 450cc engine. Unless you're talking about competition bikes that will need a major service after 10 hours use.

Maybe a good number of years ago.
DRZ-S makes 33hp or so with 50cc less. High 30s to 40 is reasonable, I'd say.

My point wasn't about the CRF450 specifically, but rather a more general point that a used bike from an established manufacturer is going to be better choice than a brand new knock off from China. Better build quality trumps a few years less use almost every time. Chinese bikes have a particularly nasty habit of rusting in our climate.

But a CRF450 is a very different proposition to a road bike - it's a better choice for some things, but for a road bike you might use to get to work 10 miles away down an A road it's not in it's self a very good choice.
