I do know someone who got sacked for gross misconduct from a job he held for many years, he pumped the CV's out here, there and everywhere and somehow managed to walk in to a better paid job even without a good reference from the last one.

It's not going to be easy but you can recover. If you haven't completed ie signed contracts, then you can still cancel without a penalty, right?

I've done well out of a couple of redundancies though. Chin up, focus on getting something else, but don't neglect the option of a tribunal if there's any hint of foul play in your selection.

Well, if your now-previous manager had that little backbone, it can only be a good thing to find a new one.
Try not to get mired in the 'woe is me' mentality that invariably hits after redundancy; you need to really hit the 'sod this, I'mma get employment' drive as soon and as hard as you can.

Just make sure that nothing links your identity to your BCF posting history. That would be bad.

When I got made redundant I was only talking to my manager a few days before about going out to buy a new settee and chairs. Didn't say a dickie bird when that money would have been better saved. Had six months previously just bought a new bike cash, again could have kept hold of the money as these things are known way in advance by the powers that be. the 12 months before I got made redundant was the first time (and last) that I was financially sound. Had money in the bank could get credit on 0% and pay it off just before it all went up.
The crap thing now is that I earn more than I did back then, but can't get a mortgage as I'm a zero contract and because I now get paid every 2 weeks money seems always to be tight, plus my rent is more than my mortgage was.
Redundancies of yester year used to be a good wind fall, these days they just seem to be the start of the end.

How long have you worked there? You should get a redundancy pay off that'll be between a few months and a few years wages. I don't think this is the case if you've worked there less than two years though.
I once heard that the minimum they can give you is one months pay for every year you've been there, but I don't have anything to back this up with so it may be wrong.

I was made redundant once, earlier in my career. I'd worked there less than a year (at that time >1 year = right to a tribunal) and I was stitched up. They pretty much hired a guy back from a years travelling and then two months later gave me notice.

I never saw it coming and it left me wondering wtf I was going to do. I ended up getting a job with a nightmare commute for a year, and then moved up and on with my career.

My advice to you is to get out there and explore every avenue for work you can. If you're desperate enough you'll get something, somewhere. Don't tell the mortgage company if you still want to go ahead with the house (unless of course you're legally obliged to ) - you could be in work in another couple of weeks and back on track.

Work on your cv, don't sit on your arse waiting for it to happen. Get out there and do it.

(Expect to become increasing frustrated with the option of despondency. Don't allow it)

It happens, it was a good thing in the early 00s.

It made me set up my own business and have a good life for a while till my business went down the drain.


However right now the employment market is brutal. 15 years ago I had a score card, I got 50% of the jobs I applied for.

Right now my application to job rate is around 0.006%. I am barely making ends meet because I can't get enough hours anywhere and retarded recruiters want me to travel 30 miles for 1 hour of work.

I was rather annoyed that a fake teacher with fake certs and no experience got a job over me.

When going for interviews, don't tell the useless twat doing the interview that he is a useless twat and doesn't know jack shit. I ended up doing that to the two kids who were doing one of my interviews. They didn't even have the courtesy to let me know that I didn't get the job.
Oh and when they ask where do you think you will be in five years time? Don't say being their manager giving them a dressing down for such lack of knowledge and piss poor interviewing techniques.

I've been made redundant twice out of 4 proper jobs. Best thing that happened each time!

Payout, a couple of months holiday and a new higher paying job. Work your ass off trying to get a new job but don't worry about the mortgage if you have a few months in hand.

You'll look back in a few years and end up much happier.

There are books on interview techniques, get down the library and start making some notes.
I bought one a good few years ago which was very much US biased, but the fundamentals are all the same. It gave me the confidence to steer the interview (once I realised that the f'tard interviewing me didn't have a clue what he was doing) and gave me a lot of stuff to work on before I went in for the interview. It all adds confidence and takes you away from reacting to questions to understanding what impression you should be making - I'm being asked this type of question, they're looking for this type of answer.

If it was me, I'd continue with the house if the brother's okay with the situation.
